Ford says Nixon will comply with Judiciary subpoena
Vice President Gerald Ford told ANPA editors and publishers that he expects President Nixon to cooperate with the House Judiciary Committee within 48 to 72 hours regarding subpoenas for 42 Watergate tapes. Ford defended Nixon's innocence on impeachable charges and explained his choice not to read transcripts to avoid a conflict of interest. He also said Nixon would not seek the 1976 presidency to stay as White House liaison.
