County supervisors vote to proceed with oil ordinance hearing

Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors indicated it will hold a public hearing today on a proposed county petroleum ordinance. The State Lands Commission urged a 90 day delay to study potential conflicts with state oil and gas code citing two governor hopefuls in the commission. The four year process and testimony from environmental and industry groups continues as officials weigh delaying action.

Montecito Horse Fans Lose Battle Over Stable Ordinance

County residents opposing a final reading ordinance to ban new stables or animal enclosures within 40 feet of dwellings won the battle late Monday. The measure, backed by the Montecito Improvement and Protective Assn. and trails groups, goes into effect in 30 days despite strong opposition from Carpinteria Valley horse fanciers and others across the county.

Camp says he knew he was being set up

Guadalupe Police Chief Stanley Camp testified in Santa Barbara Superior Court that he did not solicit or actively accept bribe money and realized after weeks of meetings with a man posing as Bob Justin that he was being set up by an undercover officer. The case's defense argued Camp was bewildered by local tension and miscommunication with the sheriff, with trial expected to continue Tuesday.

Lompoc Approves Regional Sewage Bond for 1972 Project

Facing rising pollution standards and growing demand, Lompoc voters approve a 1.5 million dollar bond to join a regional sewage treatment system with Mission Hills, Vandenberg Village, and a federal facility. The plan seeks 80 percent grant funding from state and federal sources, amid public turnout of 6,744 to 1,229.

The Environmental Resource Management Study advisory committee will hear a Wilsey Ham presentation Thursday at 7 30 p m in Lompoc Public Library. City staff, Planning Commission and City Council members are expected to attend. A 17 year old rider remains in serious condition at Marian Hospital after a motorcycle car crash. A 14 year old bicyclist is in fair condition at Marian Hospital after a collision at Walnut Avenue and K Street.
