Day of country races to aid Solvang Festival Theater
Sunday event at Past Time Farms on Highway 246 between Solvang and Buellton raises funds for the Solvang Festival Theater building fund. Gates open at 9 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast, and events begin at 10 a.m. A race card of eight events starts at 12:30 p.m. Entries 2 per horse, call 688-4382 or enter on site. Laird Williamson Leads Enrico IV at Solvang Theaterfest
Laird Williamson returns to Solvang Theaterfest this summer to play Enrico IV and direct The Madwoman of Chaillot for PCPA. He splits time with American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco where he has staged Cyrano King Richard III and The Ruling Class. Williamson’s Matchmaker tour of Russia and Hawaii impressed the State Department and Moscow Arts Theater. He has directed A Midsummer Night's Dream Cabaret and Hotel Paradiso for PCPA and acted in Becket Saint Joan Camelot School for Scandal and Richard III. An Oregon Shakespeare Festival veteran, he earned degrees from Northwestern and the University of Texas. Season details and box office information are at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.

The Santa Ynez Valley High School board met to review the district liability coverage and refer it to county counsel to satisfy state education code waivers. They approved three deferred field trips for the Future Farmers of America land judging team to Oklahoma City, Future Business Leaders of America convention in Sacramento, and geology class trips to the Sierra Nevadas and Yosemite. The board also authorized up to 750 dollars to hire a private contractor for field retofill and campus weed control.

Solvang Elementary hosts Monday 7:30 to 9 p.m. Santa Ynez School Tuesday 7 to 8:30 p.m. Los Olivos School 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jonata School Buellton Wednesday 6:45 p.m. College School 7 to 8:30 p.m. with library refreshments. Santa Ynez High School Thursday features FFA barbecue 6:30 to 8 p.m. followed by gym exhibit 8:10 and program 8:30. Ballard School also host open house and musical program at 7:30 p.m.
