Public power tax bill seeks 28 million for schools

A bill to tax gross revenues of 26 California government owned electric districts at 14 percent passed the Assembly Ways and Means Committee en route to broader House consideration. The measure would raise 28 million dollars in its first year for local school districts and the state School fund, with Los Angeles receiving about 13 million. Opponents call it an attack on government electricity. supporters say it merely equalizes tax burdens.

Johnson rejects Vietnamization plan cost and negotiations cited

Murder charge for S M youth

Santa Maria police say 16 year old Joe Villapania admitted the slaying of rancher Larry Laroa who had been missing since April 12. Detectives led to the victim's grave Tuesday after Villapania was taken into custody Monday on a charge of lack of parental control.
