DoD Eyes Space Shuttle Program and West Coast Vandenberg Plans

The Department of Defense shows strong interest in the Space Shuttle with Vandenberg AFB as a key phase in its rollout. A NASA led Kennedy Port will be primary, but DOD plans include up to 20 annual launches mainly from Vandenberg for polar orbits, with funding and schedule uncertainties shaping the timetable for 1979 to 1990.

County to receive 1 million for PEP program through 1974

Federal funding of 1 046 600 dollars will support the Public Employment Program for 15 months through June 30, 1974. The county, cities and schools hold a 130 job allotment with gradual phase down. Harvey M. Clement says the program aids disadvantaged workers with veterans given preference.

Taxpayers rush to claim homeowner exemption amid deadline

In Santa Barbara and Austin stretches, thousands sought the $175 to $200 exemption for 1973-74 tax payments. Late filers may gain 80 percent if filed by June 15 with a good reason, while officials compile qualifying figures and unresolved filers.
