House subcommittee approves extra $150 million for Indochina war
A House subcommittee voted in a closed session to provide President Nixon with an additional 150 million dollars to sustain operations in Indochina through June 30. The move accompanies a 500 million dollar transfer authority expansion from surplus accounts to cover escalating war costs. Critics, including Rep. Joseph Addabo, argued the funds sustain bombing in Laos and Cambodia amid renewed hostilities and cease-fire violations. Senate critics, led by Sen. Muskie, warned the policy could deepen American military involvement after more than a decade of war.
