Launches at Vandenberg Target Pacific Range

An Air Force Minuteman II ICBM blasted from Vandenberg at 10 51 a m heading along the Western Test Range toward a Pacific target to test the system under the 6595th Aerospace Test Wing. A Bomarc A missile used as a target followed yesterday at 11 52 a m from Vandenberg by U S naval missiles personnel.

Lompoc Chess Club Opens With Mayor MacClure

More than 100 chess enthusiasts and friends filled Lompoc Library to watch Mayor Robert D. MacClure launch the Lompoc Valley Chess Club. He praised young players and highlighted teens like Samuel Reshevsky and Bobby Fischer as national and international champions. The meeting also announced a Friends group formed by Vern Copeland and his wife for fundraising. The club will meet weekly at 7 p.m. for the next four Thursdays.

Obituary for Ned C Tucker Lompoc attorney dies in Santa Barbara

Ned Crosby Tucker a longtime Lompoc attorney died yesterday morning in Santa Barbara at age 49. Funeral services set for Monday at 11 a.m. at McPeek Family Mortuary with Rev Otis Hubbard and a Vandenberg AFB honor guard. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Survived by widow Kitty two daughters Karen Christine and Karen Elaine, father Francis S Tucker, sisters Vella Dreger and Frances Myers, brother Cal Tucker.
