B 52 Bombers Launch Heavy Raid Against Red Bivouacs

U S B 52 bombers conducted their heaviest raids in two weeks on Communist bivouacs along routes to Saigon and Da Nang. Maj Gen Ormond R Simpson said the enemy fights a headline war, while Allied forces reported about 148 enemy deaths in eight engagements and light casualties for the night.

Johns Manville reports higher first quarter sales and earnings

Johns Manville Corporation announces for Q1 1969 sales of 122.662 million and earnings of 7.293 million, or 43 cents per share, up from 1968 figures after a stock split and restatements. President D B Burnett cites firmer prices and strong construction industry demand as the main drivers.

Lompoc Cameramen Return From Vietnam Mission

Two civilian cameramen from the 1369th Photographic Squadron returned from South Vietnam where they helped film Wings of Freedom, a documentary on the RVN Air Force. James A. Marr and John Hartzell, part of an eight man crew, spent 75 days in the combat zone, filming air base activities and flying with Vietnamese crews. The crew faced rocket and mortar fire and captured over 27,000 feet of 16mm color film. The film will have English and Vietnamese versions, is being edited in California, and anticipation is distribution in about two months.

Storms sweep large nation with tornado watches and hail

Storms spanned from the Midwest to the Southeast with showers and thunderstorms, some producing hail up to marbles in Chicago and heavy rain in Michigan and Alabama. Tornado watches were active in Mississippi and Alabama as funnel clouds were sighted in West-Central Alabama.

Tax relief deadline may be extended on Reagan request

Gov. Ronald Reagan urged the legislature to extend the property tax relief deadline after applications lagged. Assemblyman Milias introduced a bill to push the filing cutoff to May 30. The measure targets the $70 1968 rebate with future $750 exemptions, excluding veterans.

Gunmen kill armored car guard in Dallas robbery

A gang shot 43 year old Jack Greenwood five times in the chest and handcuffed him to his seat during a vault hijack in southwest Dallas. Guard James Wood was wounded as the robbers fled with an estimated sixty thousand dollars. Wood described the crime that began near a drugstore as the men forced him to drive and threatened Greenwood. Police called the killing senseless and brutal.

Minor injuries in two car collision at Lompoc intersection

Sadie Seymour, 60, administrative assistant at Lompoc Library, suffered minor injuries in a collision with 21 year old Ronnie Richard White at Maple Avenue and K Street at 6 p.m. Seymour was treated and released from Lompoc Hospital with multiple bruises. White was not injured.
