Lompoc Planning Commission Considers Hospital and Service Permit

The Lompoc Planning Commission will address a long agenda. Highlights include plans for a $500,000, 99 bed convalescent hospital on East Walnut Avenue and a public hearing on a use permit for a telephone service in conjunction with a janitorial service.

Toastmaster Wickliffe wins third in regional contest

Sonny Wickliffe of Lompoc Toastmasters International placed third in a Sunday competition against regional speakers. The event occurred at Lions Inn in Lompoc. A burglary at Hancock Service Station yielded recovered cash box and papers found near 100 Block of S O Street. Eight city council candidates will answer questions on KNEZ radio and Channel 4 TV tonight at 8 p.m.

World’s worst parade ends in dismal failure in San Diego

Saturday parade drew over 10,000 spectators. Promoter Ernie Meyers, disc jockey at KOGO, had won the concept from Pittsburgh in a radio contest. Backers left unsure if the event will return next year as they marked the parade’s last anniversary.

Funeral services for Suzette Lynn Phebus 7 of Orcutt are set for tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Santa Maria with burial at Santa Maria Cemetery. She died last Saturday in a Santa Maria hospital after a sudden illness. She is survived by Chester and Mrs Phebus her parents Robert and Yvonne her siblings all of Orcutt and employed of Johns Manville Products Co of Lompoc.

Boy Killed Attempting Rescue on Pacific Coast Highway

James Alexander Mattina, 16, of Reseda, was killed when he ran to save companion Daniel Beans, 17, from an oncoming car on the Pacific Coast Highway south of Oxnard. Beans, also of Reseda, was hurt and listed in fair condition. driver Louis Nordlinger, 56, of Los Angeles, was not held.
