Huge copper wire theft from city yard
Burglars broke into the city corporate yard and stole five and a half tons of copper wire worth 5493 dollars. Ed Horn, city stores clerk, found the loss when he arrived Friday. Gate unlocked over the weekend, entry through a front gate, door pried, copper wire bare and varying gauges. In a separate weekend incident, thieves took about 664 dollars worth of mechanics tools and automotive parts from Cabrillo High School auto shop.

Manila Quake Killings and School Collapse Shock City
A strong Manila quake, similar to the 1968 event, collapsed the west wing of Pedro Guevarra Elementary School injuring 60 and killing at least five. The school had been closed for a transportation strike. three teachers and two children were pulled alive from the rubble as rescue efforts continued.
