Raymond Adelbert Tolman 1888 196? died after six weeks illness in Lompoc Hospital April 1. He lived in Lompoc 38 years was an Odd Fellows member and active Methodist. Survived by wife Bessie two daughters Maxine Reynalds and Maida Ratcliff two brothers Ralph Hugh Tolman and a sister Zella Putman. Funeral held at Starbuck chapel with Odd Fellows at Evergreen cemetery.
Lompoc city council informally approves a county led Civil Defense plan linking the city with state wide operations. Amendments require all orders and equipment requests pass through the CD director and mandate sharing state provided materials among communities. Dowse notes 18 geiger counters remain in Santa Barbara to illustrate the need for local control.
Lompoc authorities set the 37th Public Schools Week for April 23 to 27 with visitation days at both the elementary and high schools. An April 24 open house for the elementary and Hapgood schools runs 7:30 to 9:00 p m and the high school program on April 26 highlights demonstrations from homemaking, music, physical education and vocational agriculture departments.
Bureau official John Hamilton said Cachuma reservoir inflow dropped to 14 acre feet per day after an initial 27 acre feet daily reading, all water released under the live stream agreement with the water district. Stored water reached 37 315 acre feet, up 17 000 from a year ago, with December storms adding little storage due to location.

The county wide sales tax proposal will be discussed at a Lompoc Farm Center meeting Monday at 5 00 p m in the high school agricultural building open to the public. County supervisors and councilmen have been invited to comment and the Farm Bureau backs returning a portion of tax receipts to the county. Lompoc supports this but other county cities resist sharing tax proceeds with the county.
Union Oil relocates salt water line from Mission Canyon dehydration plant to beneath Ocean Park ground and under the railroad, 300 yards south of river mouth. The prior lagoon route caused boating interference and contamination when tides broke the line. county amended Union’s easement to permit the relocation.
The board of supervisors approved boundaries for two flood control zones in Lompoc under a new county ordinance. The east zone expands to include the Channing Peake and Donovan ranches, with H street as the divider. The zones will replace Cebada Mission Canyon and Miguelito maintenance districts and will finance flood projects with tax powers, excluding the City of Lompoc which may get a municipal zone later for hills south of the city.
The county pledges an immediate sum to back a two unit jail project in Lompoc modeled after Santa Maria's arrangement. Plans call for segregated male female and juvenile facilities and a site near South D street opposite Floresta Park. Construction could begin next fall with future budget inclusion.
The International Chemical Workers Union did not endorse any candidates for Tuesday's city election. Gus Bromser, local president, said no contact or endorsement actions were made by the union. The group represents hourly workers at the J-M plant.
Lompoc residents were told by County Tax Collector Leonard Page that April 10 is the final day to pay the second tax installment. Mail postmarked April 10 will be accepted without penalty. later payments incur delinquency and penalties.
Richard Alvin Fullmer of Tempe Arizona drove after a two car crash with Lucille Matlack 223 South B street. Fullmer's car crossed the street jumped the curb and slammed into the front wall of Police Chief William Petersen's residence causing siding damage. Matlack her son Dean Matlack and Fullmer required first aid.
Red Cross funds campaign in Lompoc totals $1 805.38 announced by local chapter officials. Of this amount $211.90 came from USD B personnel. Returns are incomplete and collections ongoing.
