Salt water plan eyed for Hollister Ranch development

Macco Corp of Newport Beach seeks county masterplan amendment for a 15 700 residence and recreational community on 14 000 acres west of Gaviota. A two million gallon daily water need would be met by a proposed desalination plant and possibly aided by Edison nuclear power, with bonding and a county service area under review.

State oil official calls federal drill rules adequate

Sacramento the state Division of Oil and Gas chief F E Kasline said the newly adopted federal offshore drilling safety rules are pretty adequate to help avert oil leaks like Santa Barbara. He noted many of the state’s suggestions were included though the state had not reviewed the final rules before adoption.

Nationwide Weather Scene Quiet Except for Small Twister

A lone twister in Tucumcari New Mexico caused minor damage with no injuries as nationwide mild conditions persisted. Light rain fell along a warm front from South Carolina to Kansas while the Central Plains saw showers and thundershowers and the Northeast registered a 11 degree low in Millinocket Maine.

Teague's District Office Opens Tuesday in Santa Maria

The District Office of Congressman Charles M. Teague will be open on Tuesday April 8 at the Santa Maria Post Office Building. County seeks injunction to stop Santa Barbara Channel drilling

Santa Barbara County officials petition Federal court and pen letters to President Nixon in a bid to halt resumed oil drilling in the Channel. They cite irreparable damage to beaches parks and the tax base from the Union Oil leak and demand action to save coastline from further pollution.

King observance nears amid Chicago patrols and violence

National Guardsmen patrolled Chicago as the first anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr funeral approaches. Violence erupted with 72 injured and 234 arrested on the West Side. Governor Ogilvie deployed 7 276 soldiers and Mayor Daley imposed a curfew for youths 21 and under. Abernathy urged calm in Memphis while Ray remains jailed in Nashville. Tass praised King from Moscow as US violence drew international comment.

Vietcopter crash toll and college dean list noted in 1968 report
