GM discloses in an annual SEC filing that external agents paid bribes to boost non automotive product sales in certain overseas markets. Chairman Thomas A. Murphy calls the payments minor deviations from GM’s high standards.
Murphy said a six month worldwide internal investigation found GM consistently conducted business legally and ethically. The report noted possible improper transactions by independent salesmen of non automotive products and a minor portion of their $17.5 million five-year commissions paid to foreign government personnel.
