Lompoc Council Delays Water Softener Ruling to April 16

City Administrator Gene Wahlers reports the proposed sewage ordinance will not yet include a phase out of home self regenerating water softeners. A one month delay on the regional discharge permit is requested with a hearing set for April 19 and an extended deadline from June 1, 1975 to November 1, 1977 to allow public information and startup of the regional reclamation plant.

Lompoc Debates Direct Mayor Election Vote

City Attorney Alan Davidson will report to the Lompoc City Council on whether to place a direct mayor election question before voters. The report notes the present system keeps the mayor as another council member with a one year term and warns of possible conflicts if voters choose direct election and potential term changes. The council may also consider whether to put a separate question on the mayoral term. Davidson stresses the council is not obligated to seek a vote.

Born 1901 in Azores, she lived 62 years in Lompoc Valley and worked as a cook at Lompoc District Hospital. She was a member of UPPEC SPRSI Sew and So Club and former La Purisima Altar Society. Last resided at 223 South St with survivors Albert and Manuel Tosti, Matilda Yeamons, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.

County workers seek record pay boosts in wage talks

Scout found safe in Los Padres National Forest

A 14 year old Santa Clara Boy Scout Raymond J. Ryan Jr. was found safe and uninjured after a night lost in rugged Los Padres terrain near Figueroa Mountain about 25 miles east of Santa Ynez. A large search with helicopters from Vandenberg and units from Lompoc Santa Barbara and Fish and Game aided by Forest Service personnel located him near Santa Cruz Peak.
