Knights of Pythias Lodge to receive April Beautification Award

Daily records notes the Knights of Pythias Lodge North N and Laurel as the April Beautification Commercial Award recipient. A county rep will discuss Lookout Point development at noon tomorrow with the City Beautification Committee at the Parks and Recreation Building.

Eisenhower funeral train crowds stretch across states

Thousands gathered at Charlottesville Virginia and White Sulphur Springs West Virginia as Dwight D. Eisenhower's body traveled by train toward Abilene. The route passed through Cincinnati St. Louis Kansas City and other stops with family aboard the Santa Fe car. Mrs Eisenhower sobbed at Washington National Cathedral and oxygen was aboard for her rheumatic heart condition. There were no formal services along the route and a Cincinnati memorial stop was canceled at the family's request.

Newsboy Jake Mintz Receives Merit Certificate

Ray may get new trial in King case disputed judge death

An appeals judge said Tennessee law may grant James Earl Ray a new trial after the trial judge who presided died. Ray sought a new trial claiming his guilty plea was coerced by attorney Percy Foreman. The Memphis murder case remains under review as higher courts have limited grounds for a new trial.
