Report from Lafayette to Melancholy describes the new steamer Pink sinking after a collision with a larger vessel near Rock Island. Founding partner Chancey C. Frazine, Robert Green and wife and two children are among the drowned, with others missing. The Louisville Journal note adds that the Diadem tried to avoid the crash but Pink went down in minutes.
