Indiana Whigs Nominate Embree and Stanfield for State
The Indiana Whig convention endorses Elisna Embree for Governor and Thomas S. Stanfield for Lieutenant Governor. Delegates from districts adopt votes plans, resolutions praising Zachary Taylor, opposing territorial slavery expansion, and urging Whig unity for a Buena Vista victory in August.
Colored Dayton Man Healthful after Africa Journey
Mr David Christa reports Thos Ware a colored man who went out to Africa from Dayton is in good health and spirits. His wife is also well. Ware is appointed Justice of the Peace for his district and chosen by the Associate Reformed Synod of the South as a candidate for Africa, to be supported by the church. The Synod sponsors several young colored men as Liberia missionaries and educates them at a school led by Mr Wade. Christy, who visited congregations, believes manumptions will rise in the church once missionary work begins.
