Logan hosted about 160 business and professional people for a Chamber of Commerce banquet acknowledging Hocking County and Logan industries and the payroll-driven growth they fostered. Bart Holl acted as toastmaster while Thurman Miller entertained, praising local business gratitude toward industry.
Three men including novelist Jee de Frank and Seymour Waldman were detained on vagrancy charges while investigations proceed. Stanley Wemyes 32 of Lima Ohio pleaded guilty to stealing two valuable volumes from Newark Public Library. He agreed to work with G William Berquist investigator for the New York public library to recover the stolen editions. Wemyes was paroled on a one year suspended sentence in custody of Berquist after the plea.
Administrators of four 4-H club girls estates sue Dr. and Mrs. R L Haines pool operators in Xenia Ohio seeking 45000 in common pleas court for the Aug 7 drowning at the Jamestown pool. Named victims include Evelyn Drake 12 Ruth Anna Gano 18 and Marjorie Washburn 14 from Wilmington New Burlington.
Assistant photographer John Sedivy survived after a film crew plane carrying pilot Oscar Hanold and three Chicago passengers Wilma Schuster Howard Adams and Ralph Biddy crashed near Naperville while trying to photograph a speeding streamlined train. Sedivy was left behind due to limited space for equipment.
Demand for hunting licenses at the Clerk of Courts office and local shops in Logan grew as hunters complained about late season. Game Protector Ed Eberst cautioned there is no bag limit on the common red squirrel, noting regional abundance and food scarcity affecting populations.
