France and Britain discuss League of Nations action while diplomats urge restraint until fighting begins.

A car skidded on a wet Rt. 31 north of Logan injuring two of three occupants Friday afternoon. Mrs. Frank Brooks of Freisner Avenue sprained her ankle and had back injuries while her daughter Betty sustained ankle and leg injuries. Bonnie was unhurt. The vehicle was badly damaged and the victims were treated at Cherrington hospital.
Seven persons including three children died and nine were injured when a basement blast gutted a three story tenement in Chicago. Fire officials questioned Kraunkvitae, owner of a grocery on the first floor, as firefighters battled flames trapping 20 sleeping residents.
Paul Beckman a 12 year old Davenport boy found two dynamite boxes in the street and placed them in his school locker to return them. Ralph S Quelle a cement company manager led a frantic search after Beckman disclosed their location. The boxes contained five sticks of dynamite and five caps.
Joseph S. McNeeley 70 retired Hamilton newspaperman died after years of failing health. Survivors include daughter Mrs. Mary Guy of Canton Ohio.
The Van Sweringen brothers of Cleveland and their new financial backers move to auction to recover collateral over a loan and interest totaling about 48 million dollars. Securities valued around seven million dollars are pledged by J. P. Morgan & Co. and allies to regain control of their vast railway holdings.
Three women and one man were killed in Ohio auto accidents Sunday. Mrs Ploria Myers of Conneaut died in a head on collision near Twinsburg. Mrs Beatrice Casey 34 of Columbus also died in a head on crash. Joseph Blomer 45 of Bond Hill Cincinnati suburb was fatally injured.
Cleveland Sept 30 AP steelworks operations fell to 51 percent last week while awaiting full auto industry production. Structural steel awards reported by TM magazine Steel reached a peak since last June and pig iron orders remained heavy, but the decline was not offset by these factors.
New Castle Pa George Hanna sought two ladders for his painting business at an auction but was urged to purchase the entire barn contents instead. He acquired rare crystal glasses an antique bedstead tea ware Turkish towels candlesticks and willow ware.
Detectives captured a paroled reformatory inmate in a filling station trap. Four other neighborhood robberies prompted officers to suspect the station would be targeted next.
San Rafael hosts the North Bay Kennel Association first annual show. Warden James B. Holohan of San Quentin entered a collie in the show and won first prize in its class.
Toledo Sept 30 AP The west end of the Fasset street bridge collapsed into the Maumee river this morning. Bridge tender Carl Heaton in the tender's house was hurled into the river but rescued and hospitalized. Police and rescue squads were sent out after reports of automobiles on the span. none were found in the water. Heaton suffered only wet feet.
The Ohio Valley Dahlia Association awarded its gold medal to Harley T. Peck of Lebanon for an exhibit of red blooms at the second annual Ohio Valley Dahlia Show. The Golden Rule Cup for runner up went to O. E. Lehman of Gore for white seedlings from Presley Caldwell of Richmond Dale, Ross County.
William Saffley aged 81 longtime blacksmith of Summerford four miles north of London died Saturday. For over 50 years he operated his forge, which helped the village thrive as a stage coach stop on the national highway. Death attributed to infirmities of age.
The Carbon Hill P T A will hold its first meeting on Thursday evening October 3 at 7 30 in the Carbon Hill Gymnasium. The association arranged buses to bring district parents to the meeting and invites all interested to attend.
Pastors in Cleveland pulpits urged congregations to vote in the mayoral primary tomorrow. Observers expect a record turnout, with 215000 votes cast in the previous two years.
East Liverpool September 30 AP A celebration marked the 108th anniversary of the founding of the First Methodist Episcopal church with Dr. Louis C. Wright president of Baldwin Wallace College Berea set to speak there Sunday.
Col. Charles A. Lindbergh and Harry F. Guggenheim surprise Dr. Robert H. Goddard in Roswell New Mexico. Goddard describes experiments sending recording instruments on rockets to great heights theoretically beyond balloon altitudes.
In Welsburg West Virginia the Ohio River yielded two bodies identified as Thomas Stafford seventy of East Steubenville and John Halapy fifty of Steubenville. Sheriff Lowe and coroner Dr. Renanko linked the deaths to a midstream or shore altercation that may have involved four men. Albert James fifty of Steubenville died previously. all three cases share skull fractures of similar type.
Veteran Logan fishermen Joe Hall and George Bright reported a record catch at Beverly on the Muskingum river over the weekend. They landed a 12 lb shovel head a 9 lb buffalo a 5% lb wall-eyed pike and ten more fish totaling 49 lbs on one trip. In another trip they brought in 56 lbs. of fish.
Mahlon L. Henderson, veteran reporter and columnist for the Cambridge Daily Jeffersonian, died Sunday of pneumonia at age 41. He served as secretary of the Cambridge board of sinking fund trustees and was a World War veteran.
Elizabeth Phillips, 76, died from a head wound after a quarrel at home in Elyria Ohio. Frank Barath 56 the man who kept house for her and raised his five children was in jail as authorities reviewed evidence. Barath allegedly returned home intoxicated after a Sunday quarrel and shot Phillips.
Hundreds of Hocking county nimrods head to fields tomorrow as the squirrel season opens with a four-bag limit. Deputies tighten enforcement and firearms may be confiscated for violations. H C Godman Shoe Co closes Logan plants to let workers hunt season advance.
A hurricane rages toward the Atlantic causing 37 deaths and about 300 injuries, with Cuba reporting the heaviest losses. In Jamaica, the Holland America Rotterdam carrying 600 passengers ran aground on a reef 60 miles southeast of Kingston but the captain said all aboard are safe and well.

William Konold of Warren joins Governor Ruby Laffoon's staff as admiral. He relinquished command of the Ohio Department of the American Legion to Milton D. Campbell of Cincinnati. The commission was presented by T Tallentire of Cincinnati.
Edward Boylan, 59, suffered grave injuries in a fierce hand to hand fight with a robber in his darkened bedroom. The assailant escaped with $45. Boylan is in a city hospital. The incident occurred early Sunday.
