Patricia Maguire, a 32 year old Oak Park stenographer who has been in a prolonged coma since February 15, 1932, died after pneumonia caused the decline. Her death ends a puzzling case of lethargic encephalitis with two blood transfusions failing to wake her. Mother and six relatives were at her bedside.
Justice Hugo L Black returned to Norfolk aboard the City of Norfolk and said he will make any statement about the Ku Klux Klan issue only in a form that cannot be misquoted. He refused further discussion of the Klan membership allegations while signaling a possible future statement. He greeted reporters warmly but rejected a newspaper offer to copy the Klan story series.
Delegates at the 43rd Ohio Valley Improvement Association convention in Cincinnati resolved to oppose creating regional authorities for flood control. They called the proposed legislation a crippling blow to flood control and urged full authority to be vested in the U S Engineers.

President Roosevelt and the First Lady spend a full day resting at the Seattle Boettiger home with John Boettiger publisher of the Seattle Intelligencer and his wife and two children Sissie and Buzzie.
Gov. Martin L. Davey appointed Frederick Wickham a prominent Democrat and attorney from Columbus to succeed Judge H. W. Jewell on the Delaware County Common Pleas Court. Wickham will take the bench October 15 as Jewell joins the State Parole Board.

In Coshocton governor Lyons reviews the death of Walter Beckless 37 from a skull fracture in a street fight.
Industrial Commission of Ohio has filed an answer to Fred Harble's petition for compensation for injuries received June 14 1935 while employed by the Laurel Township board of trustees. Harble seeks total disability due to a heart injury from throwing a heavy leg chain around a stump. His appeal to the commission was denied.
London reports Britain and France pressed Premier Mussolini with a push for talks to withdraw Italian legions aiding Franco. The move aims to prompt homecoming for thousands of Italian soldiers and avert wider foreign intervention in Spain.
