Edith Weakens as Hurricane Edith Pummels Caribbean

Edith weakened slightly but still lashed the Caribbean with 75 mph to 100 mph winds. Waves and tides rose up to eight feet, flooding coasts as the storm tracked through Mona Passage between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. GE And Union Agree On New Three Year Contract

General Electric and Union officials signed a three year contract at the Logan Glass Plant. Local 1017 American Flint Glass Workers Union members ratified the agreement, with wage increases from 5 to 7 percent per hour starting Sept. 23 and a second raise scheduled for April 5, 1965. Fringe benefits including pension, insurance, and vacation plans are extended for five years while the main contract runs three.

Peruvian IFYE Imelda Jeri Finds Logan Welcoming

Imelda Jeri a 24 year old IFYE student from Tarma Peru stays with the Holloways in Logan Ohio after arriving May 2. She works on health and hygiene projects and plans to apply sanitation lessons back home. A State Highway Patrol helicopter aided the search for Charles W. McCandlish, an escapee from Lebanon Correctional Institution. The suspect wrecked a car near Pataskala on Ohio 161, fled on foot, and is described as 21, 5 9, 130 pounds and dangerous.
