A World War II style coordinating list advises gifts for service members worldwide. It maps regions Europe Middle East Persian Gulf South Pacific Panama Alaska Hawaii Greenland Iceland and specifies preferred items such as coffee clothing money belts lighters radios watches tools and athletic gear to fit each area.
California woman Cathryn Cosgrove described her marriage to Heber Cleveland in 1941 within a Fundamentalist sect. She testified the couple had a child in Grand Junction in 1942 and that she was later told the child would marry David Darger. Cosgrove also described living at Musser’s home with two other women and witnessing alleged polygamous arrangements.
Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Mack, 70, who died at 795 Oak Street, Columbus, were held at St. Joseph's Cathedral Tuesday morning. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lancaster, by Egan-Ryan. She is survived by husband and four daughters, including Mrs. Gerald Gabriel of Logan and Mrs. Frank Walters of Columbus.
More than 1,100 American heavy bombers attacked railway yards and industrial plants at Kassel Ludwigshafen Cologne and Mainz in western Germany. The missions, the third straight day of heavy attacks, were escorted by about 700 American fighters.

He said government controls will be stripped on V day and management must pilot civilian production restoring manpower for explosive plants shipyards radar and duck making. He urged add 68 000 workers for explosives plants 50 00 for ship production 4500 for airborne radar and 8700 for cotton duck.
Four people died when a fire department emergency truck collided with a car at Livingston Avenue and South Third Street in Columbus Ohio. Captain Charles H Eckstorm age 48 was among the dead and firefighters Robert Gerstner Edward W Hart and Melvin D Thompson were injured. The truck was rushing to a heart attack call on the south side.
Arthur Reed, a worker on the Stires farm near Haydenville, was seriously injured Monday afternoon while erecting a derrick. A plank struck him in the back, causing a fall and dislocation of his left ankle. He received treatment at a local physician's office.

A soldier’s death in France ends the Gorrell murder case. Paratrooper Phil Kennamer, son of Judge Franklin E. Kennamer, was killed August 15 while serving in World War II in France. The 1934 Thanksgiving shooting of John F. Gorrell sparked a decade of trials and appeals in Tulsa. Kennamer had testified self defense, saying he used Gorrell’s pistol to slay him during a quarrel over kidnapping a Tulsa girl.
Washington Sept 27 AP Philip Murray urged quick action on CIO United Steelworkers ten month wage request before the War Labor Board. An OPA study reportedly shows a 17 cent rise could occur without triggering price increases. The study argues no basis for an overall steel price hike and notes wage gains would be offset by overtime loss and reduced upgrading.
Washington Sept 27 War Production Board moves to aid veterans in starting small businesses. The measure favors veterans who ran businesses before the war, delaying reemployment advantages for wage earners. The order, signed Monday, becomes effective without formal announcement. The War Manpower Commission also issued a free choice of civilian jobs by abolishing hiring controls for returned service men, extending beyond the post discharge exemption.
Columbus Ohio Sept 27 AP Dr Sidney McCurdy former medical supervisor for the Ohio Industrial Commission died last night at his summer home in St Johnsbury Vermont The commission was informed today.

The commission will consolidate subcommittee reports and seek legislation by January to enable city funding, relaxed bond thresholds, and appointment of county zoning officials.
The Office of War Information said the war against Japan will continue at least a year and a half after Germany's surrender.
