U. S.-Japan Rocket Firing Is Successful Flight
An Aerobee rocket carrying a 185 pound instrument package for United States Japanese experiments was launched from Wallops Island Virginia and reached 139 miles into the ionosphere. The eight minute flight was deemed good by NASA. The payload splashed down in the Atlantic 80 miles from the launch site. A second flight in the series is scheduled for Thursday as a daytime launch. The mission aimed to measure electron density and temperature by different methods.
