South Viet Unit Decimated In Fighting Near Cambodia
A 130 man South Vietnamese irregular unit led by Green Berets suffered over half casualties six miles south of the Cambodian border. Seven killed and 62 wounded, four Green Berets wounded. U S bombers dropped about 750 tons on North Vietnamese bases along the border as part of a broad operation. Eleven U S helicopters engaged, 16 enemy dead, no U S casualties. Gen Abrams warned of a possible winter spring campaign continued from autumn attacks near the border.

Paving Begins On Rt 328 Relocation
A. J. Baltes Co. started paving relocated Rt. 328 Union Furnace Rd. The south side of the Hocking River is being poured and should finish in about two days weather permitting. The new Rt. 328 will span three bridges over four lane Rt. 33 C&O railroad and the river. The section is expected open early next month with the final Logan bypass section due by year end.

Army Extends Safeguard Antimissile Research Funding
The Army will spend 1.3 million daily through November 3 to keep Safeguard antimissile research alive while awaiting full congressional approval. Western Electric received 55 million as part of a 249.65 million contract under the defense budget for 1970.
