A former teacher born in Good Hope Two Hocking County taught since 1907 in Fairfield and Hocking schools. Survived by two sisters and 69 nieces and nephews. Burial planned at West Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The U S Court of Appeals abandons prospect of an out of court settlement in the White House tapes issue. Archibald Cox and White House aides report three meetings failed to reach a compromise. Appeals court to rule by Oct 1 with possible Supreme Court appeal. Cox argues tapes of nine conversations are essential to the grand jury. Also, Liddy pleads not guilty in L A state case and Rothblatt sues Nixon officials for 10 million.
Beirut reports that Egypt secretly warned Palestinian guerrillas of plans to break the three year cease-fire. The warning circulated in a nine hour PLO executive committee session led by Yasir Arafat. A guerrilla spokesman said a statement would be issued within 24 hours.
Hocking County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday at West Logan Elementary School to discuss the proposed West Logan sanitary sewer collection system and related assessments and rates. Written objections or endorsements are due within five days after the hearing. The project is estimated at 842000 with 456000 in federal grants and the remainder funded by bonds and special assessments over 20 years.

Gov. Gilligan announced Ohio will build the first Fire Training Academy adjoining the Agriculture Service Center near Reynoldsburg. Groundbreaking is expected next year.

NASA began five week tests at Ames Research Center in California to assess women’s suitability for spaceflight. Twelve Air Force flight nurses participate to study low gravity effects on reentry, blood pooling, and body changes, with eight kept in bed two weeks and four allowed to walk. Data will be compared with male results and tied to Space Shuttle plans for 1978.
