George W. Tucker dies Saturday at the Gore home, reported by the Associated Press. Berlin dispatches note intense German air activity over London and mixed claims of raids on rail lines west of the Thames with British counter efforts across Germany.
Hillsborough California parents announce readiness to meet a $100000 ransom for kidnapped Marc de Tristan Jr. FBI and local police withdraw to let family contact kidnapper. The note directs contact through a San Francisco Examiner ad for a Lincoln Zephyr and cash only.
A two man reunion threatened to hold up the Logan Bexley football game Friday night. John E Halliday a Gallipolis lawyer and Harry M Krumlauf Daily News city editor met for the first time in 17 years. Their last meeting was at Camp Knox in 1923 during CMITC track events.
Logan High School band, led by James Robert Horwell, wowed 2,000 fans at the Bexley game with a halftime feature. The group formed a triad symbol, lit by cap lights, as Martha Sue Cruise sang God Bless America, drawing thunderous applause.
A jammed target pistol in the hands of Robert Nunley exploded yesterday killing his 20 year old brother in law Sidney Tracker in Chillicothe Ohio. Police Chief Russell Poole reported the incident occurred as Nunley attempted to use the weapon.
George W. Tucker 87, lifelong Gore-Orville resident and former Chartiers Oil Co. pipeline superintendent, died at home after a monthlong illness. He helped found Gore U B Church, served as school director and active Republican. Survived by seven children and a brother. arrangements by Leonard Funeral Service.
Rolland Bright a Logan banker and Past Grand Patriarch and Grand Encampment Treasurer will speak at the 1.0.0.F. regional meeting held at the Athens county fairgrounds Sunday. R. W. Comly of Logan and Willis Lehman of Logan represent the districts in the Grand Encampment and Grand Lodge, with Odd Fellows and Rebekahs from seven districts attending.
Logan High School students elected council representatives and secretaries from senior, junior, and sophomore room groups this week. Senior rooms 20 22 23 24 named pairs. juniors named representatives at large and room pairs. sophomores listed pairs by room numbers.
Ohio voters may mark a circle for their party on the ballot after the Ohio Supreme Court reversed a secretary of state order. The court ruled the circle must appear at the head of each party column, despite the state’s ballot separation law. The ruling was issued at the request of Democratic national committeeman Charles Sawyer and dismisses a separate challenge to Rep. Michael J. Kirwan’s renomination in Ohio’s 19th District.

E. N. Dietrich state director of education and aide Dick Smith will appear at the Hocking County teachers institute in Logan on Friday September 27. The program begins at 8 15 A M with invocations music and talks from OSU and OU officials and local educators.
Carl Amelung a Capital Seminary student in Columbus will preach at St. Matthew Lutheran Church Sunday morning and St. John's Church near Enprise Sunday evening in place of Rev. A L Heyde who is ill and advised to take a short rest.
The courts between the Municipal swimming pool and North Mulberry Street will be open to the public in a few days. Backstops are being installed and once finished the courts will be ready for use with no charge to players as announced by the Board of Education.
Peter Perone 26 of Columbus and former Logan resident died Friday at Mt Carmel Hospital after a year-long illness. Funeral set for Sacred Heart Church Columbus at 8 30 AM Monday with burial in Logan. He owned a confectionery in Logan for several years.
The October grand jurors meet on Monday October 14 announced Prosecuting Attorney Hubert Lappen. Petit jurors are tentatively scheduled for Monday October 21. Clerk Don Feather and Nelson DeLong Ed jury commissioners advertise dates and case preparation. To date 23 cases cited for grand jury action, expected to rise to 25 or 30. many involve nonsupport charges.
Dr. W B La Ridge will begin pupil vaccinations next week in Hocking County. Assisting is county nurse Bertha Madlener. Parents have signed consent cards. Vaccination starts Tuesday September 24 in Ilesboro Union Furnace Haydenville Greendale Carbon Hill Murray City and Wednesday in West Man Marion Township Rockbridge Nickel Pilate Gore.
John W. Champion, retired manufacturer and philanthropist, died yesterday in Columbus at age 79. He led Subeams Manufacturing Co and was noted for gifts that funded Nightingale Cottage.
