In Hocking County probate files Olen Storer discovers a death certificate for William Zarvey who died January 11 1873 in Milton Township aged 105 years 10 months His likely birth date is January 1 1768 placing his birth eight years before the American Revolution.
President Roosevelt is set to sign the first peacetime conscription bill at 3 P M as 60 000 National Guardsmen mobilize. A delay in receipt at the White House left the timing uncertain but the White House indicated signing would occur today if the president receives the bill before leaving for Alabama.
Dr Glenn Frank 52 a Republican political adviser and educator was killed in an auto crash near Green Bay on election eve as he sought the U S Senate nomination in Wisconsin. His son 21 a reporter was fatally injured and a campaign aide suffered minor burns from acid.
The soil conservation experiment station in Zanesville announces a Tuesday field day with an observation tour leaving at 8 55 a m from the Zanesville headquarters and ending at 12 30 pm. After lunch the group travels to the hydrologic experiment tion at Coshocton. Hocking County farmers, previously absent, are welcomed to join.

James L. Patterson 85 a retired newspaper publisher died over the weekend. He operated papers in Portsmouth Findlay Defiance Fremont and McConnelsville.
William D. Risley aged 82, a retired Logan carpenter, died Monday at the Black Rest Home in Columbus after illness. He lived on Gallagher Avenue and formerly partnered with Emanuel Wolfe in carpentry. Survived by brother Harry and granddaughter Mrs. Mary Donovan of Spirit Lake Iowa. Leonard Funeral Service handling arrangements.
Joe Butts 42 of Nelsonville waived reading of the affidavit and pleaded innocent to assaulting an 18 year old Coalgate girl. Held for the grand jury in 500 dollars bond after Nelsonville officers arrested him early Saturday morning for an alleged late Friday night offense.
About 400 to 500 county school employes and family members attended the first annual picnic at Kachelmacher Park on Saturday afternoon. Miles Graham former English teacher at Logan High School and Ohio State University spoke. Representatives from all districts joined in the event with music by a 140 piece massed band.
Democratic Chairman Edward Flynn told a Cleveland crowd that Wendell Willkie lined up with the wrong party by backing President Roosevelt's farm relief unemployment insurance and other programs. Flynn contrasted Willkie with Republican leaders, warned of party splits, and cited votes by Rep. Joseph Martin. Davey attacked Gov. Bricker for fiscal restraint and claimed cruelty to the poor over state aid decisions during his governorship.

A throat specialist reported improvement. Willkie planned the 5 PM EST Coffeyville talk and stops at Claremore and Tulsa to follow.

In Europe, Nazi air assaults across the Channel produced heavy losses for Britain and a high daily total of German planes shot down, with London enduring a major air raid and Buckingham Palace hit by a time bomb incendiary.
Sam Rayburn aged 58 was elected Speaker of the House by acclamation in Washington while former Speaker William B Bankhead lies in state at the foot of the House for a state funeral. Bankhead, 66, died early yesterday after seven years as a staunch administration ally.
Crews started work Monday on West Hunter Street U S Route 33 between the state highway barns and Washington Avenue. The project calls for a 40 foot brick highway on a concrete base with catchbasins first. Hussey and Holderman hold the contract. Four men are reported on the initial phase and traffic will be maintained as work progresses. The old pavement will be removed in the near future, and completion is anticipated by mid December.
