Barton A. Holl of the Logan Chamber explains a proposed ordinance setting an average gas rate near 62 cents per 1000 cubic feet over five years for 5500 cubic feet monthly use. The plan shifts Ohio Fuel Gas Co. to a graduated rate from 59 to 65.8 cents, with PUCO considerations looming.
Walter Guess was arraigned before Mayor Kenneth Fitzgerald on a reckless driving charge and held to the grand jury under $200 bond. Police say he drove on the wrong side of Market Street near Hunter Street, striking Willis Lehman, a city employee helping clear a storm sewer after rain. Lehman has shown slight improvement, but suffers pleurisy and nervous shock from the crash.

The state public utilities commission keeps hearings to set the cost of bringing gas to Columbus city limits in a dispute involving Ohio Fuel Gas Co and its rate plan with the city. Eleven other cities are parties, including Franklin, Lorain, Middletown, Delaware, Elyria, Norwalk, Toledo, Springfield, Parma, Malta and Logan. The case seeks to validate proposed rates with a sliding scale from a $1 monthly minimum to 50 cents per thousand for usage over 200 thousand cubic feet.

Dennie Medley of the Striking United Shoe Workers accuses Judge William R. White of prejudice after he enjoined strikers from interfering with Williams Manufacturing Company employees. Medley filed the affidavit in common pleas court on September 15 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt told reporters he had received no information from any source before nominating Hugo L. Black to the Supreme Court. Black, in London, avoided questions about the allegations as the Klan controversy resurged.
Rioters stormed a synagogue at Czeladz during a Yom Kippur service in an anti Jewish attack. The piece recalls earlier anti Semitic riots in Brzesc, Poland, in May that damaged Jewish shops and homes and left many Jews beaten after a stabbing of a policeman by a Jewish butcher. Authorities faced criticism for inaction or complicity. Brzesc officials were later ousted.
In New Rochelle New York Tommy Manville seeks privacy at Bon Repos to consider his marital troubles. He faces a gentleman's agreement to pay around 200000 dollars to Marecelle Edwards his fourth wife for divorce and denies plans to wed Dolly Goering his secretary.
Pasquale Julian, 49, died in Youngstown hospital after being dragged about 200 feet by a hay rake while clearing McDonald High School football field. He was unseated when horses spooked and fell before the rake prongs, suffering severe lacerations. Julian had been hospitalized since the incident last Thursday.

Farmers disrupted poles and wire, arguing the project interferes with Rural Electrification Administration plans. Washington reactions labeled the line a potential spite move.
Delegates at the Miami Conference of the United Brethren Church confronted a possible second ballot for the superintendent post. Dr Pred L Dennis of Dayton, elected yesterday on the third ballot, said he was undecided about accepting the role.

Cleveland economist Col. Leon Ayres of the Cleveland Trust Co. says steel and farming are the high spots of 1937 in American business. He notes iron and steel surpass the auto industry and production is about one third higher than 1936, with a likely rise beyond 1929 records.
