Paris reports the Big Four foreign ministers meet to decide Italy's pre war colonies Eritrea Libya and Somalia. With Sept 15 deadline and Sept 21 UN Assembly looming, unanimity is required for a solution though pessimism runs high.
Stephany Sara and Frank Hitchcock delayed fixing their wedding date pending a final decree in his divorce from his second wife. The 23 year old daughter of a Pennsylvania coal miner and Hitchcock, brother of polo great Tommy Hitchcock, hold a license once issued by Flagler County. The judge did not reveal the intended wedding date.
Count Folke Bernadotte ordered Israel to readmit Arab refugees to three villages and to rebuild their shattered homes. He stated 8 000 Arabs were driven out and their homes smashed during the truce.
Perfect fall weather continued into Monday in Logan and Hocking County as residents enjoyed Sunday trips to the country scenic districts and other points of interest. In Mansfield Ohio on September 13 a trial for 24 year old ex convict Robert Murl Daniels opened accusing him of killing John E Niebel 50 superintendent Noranda Niebel 52 and their daughter Phyllis 21. Prosecutor Lutz said the killings were malicious and premeditated while Daniels defense blamed his companion John West and claimed Daniels memory loss and insanity.
Mrs Mary Poling 73 widow of Charles Poling died at 7 45 AM Monday at her Rockbridge home after a period of failing health. A native of Hocking County she had lived in Rockbridge for many years. Woodard Funeral Service to announce funeral arrangements. Survivors include six daughters and one son.
President Truman's supporters counted on a Texas convention win to blunt Dixie revolt and keep him on state ballots. The States Right Party already fields electors for Thurmond Wright and may contest the Truman Barkley ticket for Texas 23 electoral votes.
Prague report says Minister of Justice Alexej Cepicka, Gottwald’s son in law, warned that foreign agents aim to kill President Klement Gottwald. He told Inductov crowds the unnamed agents were ordered to kill Gottwald in revenge for Eduard Benes’s death.

Police and Dakota County authorities checked a small strand of twine for clues in the death of Juanita Wendell a 13 year old St Paul babysitter found strangled and buried near Lakeville about 15 miles south of St Paul. The girl had been missing since August 9 when she left home to babysit.
Ma ria Monez Strohmeier, 21, of Spanish extraction and a green eyed blond, won Mrs. America 1948 at Asbury Park New Jersey. She began a whirlwind reign with a press conference parade and modeling for photographers while arranging the $5 000 prize package including a fur coat furniture and appliances.
An American naval plane carrying Capt B S Custer naval attache and four others is missing over northern Manitoba. Also aboard was Capt Sir Robert Stirling Hamilton naval advisor to the British high commissioner. The craft left Churchill for The Pas and Ottawa Sunday morning and has not been heard from.
A powerful hurricane nearing Bermuda with winds near 140 mph was 65 miles southwest at 10 15 a m. The center was expected to pass 40 to 60 miles west of Bermuda as it moves north-northwest. Forecasters warned winds would rise and Bermuda would feel the impact before the storm recedes northward.
Logan schools report a new enrollment peak with 122 first graders, seven more than last year's peak. City superintendent George E. Carr notes wartime birth-rate rise, leading to two first grades at Central School and two second grades at West School while other grades stay near prior totals.
The South Side Brooks Bottling Co. factory building was destroyed in a three alarm blaze in Columbus. Losses were estimated at 120000 for Brooks Bottling Co and 50000 for Cemco Manufacturing Co with 40000 cited by building owner E T Spillman. Exploding soft drink bottles forced firefighters back. Two homes caught fire from heat and sparks but were extinguished.
Indian troops invaded the princely state of Hyderabad from all sides to restore order. Tanks and air support accompanied by dominion troops moved rapidly, with little resistance, as a potential plebiscite on Hyderabad’s future loomed and the Nizam’s private armies were cited as a cause of unrest.
