The Ohio Board of Education approved 445631 in Appalachian funds for Hocking Technical College to build new facilities near Nelsonville. The board also authorized contracts for instructional television across Ohio and for teacher education programs for handicapped students.
The 1972 Hocking County Fair began at noon amid threats of more rain. Jud Matheny warned the 6:30 p.m. tractor pull could be canceled if showers resume. Highlights include Junior Fair King and Queen judging at 6:30 p.m. and possible venue moves to the Youth Center if needed.
Dr. R. C. Jones announces departure from Logan practice to join Hudson Health Center at Ohio University Athens. He will begin Sept. 18, work a 40 hour week, be on call every eight days, and maintain a brief Logan office reopening for records through late October. He moved to Athens housing search and commutes from Logan until relocation.
South Vietnamese Marines fought into the Quang Tri Citadel but faced heavy resistance. About 400 North Vietnamese troops were believed entrenched in the fortress as jets pounded the area. Marines sought to seal off enemy supply routes while artillery and ground combat raged around the citadel. The battle followed a South Vietnamese counter offensive begun June 28 after the Viet Minh captured Quang Tri on May 1.
The Logan Kiwanis Club hosts its annual Parade on Wheels Friday morning with line up at the Courthouse at 9 and a route to the Hocking County Fairgrounds for judging. Four divisions include children up to six on tricycles, and awards of 3 and 2 dollars.

A frontal system with widespread showers and thunderstorms moved across the country from the Southwest mountains to upstate New York. Severe storms battered a swath of the plains and Midwest, especially southwestern Iowa and southeastern Nebraska, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

Indicted were Andy McDonald Nelsonville for breaking and entering at Mc Gathey's Service Station Feb 20 Gary K Gilkey Skyline Trail West Logan two counts of shooting with intent to wound in a July 17 Shake Shoppe incident and Orville J McCoy Nelsonville for breaking and entering and theft of a firearm tied to an Aug 17 H&S Firestone Store event. Arraignments set for 9 a.m. Friday before Judge Harley Meyer. The panel also inspected the county jail and called for repairs including banisters handrails remodeling ventilation and toilet seat replacement.

J Phillip Richley state director of highways filed two actions in Hocking County Common Pleas Court to appropriate two land parcels for the Rt 33 595 interchange. Defendants include Virgil Sharb executor of June Sharb, Dannie's Trailer Sales, county officials, and others. One parcel is .88 acre with 7175 deposited. the other .25 acre with 3625 deposited. Land needed for a northbound ramp. plans hinge on funds and possible federal aid.
Washington AP reports lawyers for the Democratic party renew efforts to file allegations that former Commerce Secretary Maurice H Stans played a key role in the bugging and burglarizing of the Democratic National Committee offices last June in an amended complaint to the invasion of privacy suit by the DNC and Lawrence F OBrien. The stock market fell for a sixth straight session in New York with the Dow down 3 31 to 951 69 as volume stayed light. European finance ministers agree to a European Monetary Fund as a precursor to a central bank and possible common currency. Dayton Power and Light Co ordered to build a cooling tower for its Ohio River power plant 75 miles from Cincinnati by the State Water Pollution Control Board.
