Common Pleas Court Judge Harley Meyer ordered a drawing of 45 names from the Hocking County jury wheel for October terms. Fifteen will serve as grand jurors and 30 as petit jurors. The drawing is set for Wednesday September 21 at 9 a.m. in the commissioners of jurors office. Grand jurors will convene at the Courthouse on October 3 at 9 a.m.
President Eisenhower spoke at Lowry Air Force Base about education and retirement. He urged extending high school and college to five years to match life's complexities and noted older workers are retiring too early, possibly prompting a revival of older generations. He also hinted at staying active past age 65.

Four people were injured in a truck car crash on Maysville Road southeast of Route 75. They were treated and released at Hocking Valley Hospital. Injured were Ralph E. Sinift 30 Ellen Sinift 30 Karen Sinift 7 and Kenneth Sinift 3. The truck driver was John N. Altier 18. Vehicle damage included a severely damaged car front end and left side. In a separate incident on Rt 75 south of Logan Owen W Williams 57 was fined 10 dollars for improper backing after his car stopped to let out passengers and was rear ended by Ronald E Coe 20.
Bert Beck, 54, of Rome, was killed yesterday when a silo filling pipe struck him. The tragedy occurred in West Union and authorities began an investigation into the incident.

Judge Harley Meyer of Common Pleas Court fined Kenneth Wayne Boals 28, of Logan Route 3, $500 plus costs for driving while intoxicated and ordered six months in jail. Boals’ license was suspended for two years with $400 of the fine and five months of the sentence suspended for good behavior. Boals was arrested on Route 75S early Sunday by Deputies Spurgeon Metzler and Joe Breeze after a sheriff’s office warning.
Hocking Countians faced a sharp cold snap as temperatures fell from a high of 91 degrees Saturday to 75 yesterday and 70 by mid afternoon today. A low around 40 to 45 is forecast for tonight with a sunny and warmer Tuesday ahead.

Willard Garner, 51, was arrested near his Ward Township home on charges of operating a whisky still. A federal IRS agent and an Ohio Liquor Control agent conducted the raid. He was jailed locally and taken to Columbus for arraignment before Federal Judge Mell G. Underwood.
