In Minneapolis at the Flour City Ornamental Iron Works a strike-related clash left two dead and about 30 injured as tear gas and gunfire raked a crowd of four thousand during a third night of disorder. Police armored cars used tear gas while crowds scattered amid rioting and police pursuit.
Evelyn Hoey, Broadway and Paris torch singer famed for What Is This Thing Called Love, was found shot dead at the farm home of Henry H. Rogers Jr. in Downingtown PA. Rogers, son of a late Standard Oil magnate, was held on suspicion of murder after an argument reportedly occurred during a party. Police recovered a .45 pistol and bloodstained firearm coverings. a sawed-off shotgun was found nearby.
A boycott in Mexico by religious groups formed after clergy banned a fan dance by Miss Sidney Dell Dees, a Los Angeles actress, in Guadalajara. Protests surged when Dees wore a gardenia clad costume and tossed the flowers to admirers.
An arbitration panel, chaired by Dr. George W. Stocking, awarded a 15 percent wage increase to office employees and 5 percent to electrical workers at Toledo Edison amid June strike tensions. Union members approved, company reps dissented, and the unions hailed the awards as satisfactory though not complete. The office workers union covers about 130 employees, roughly 60 percent of Edison office staff, and general implementation was expected.
U S Weather Observer William Alexander told Ohio farmers not to fear frost harming the corn crop in the next ten days or two weeks. He attributed the cool spell to an anti cyclonic condition but forecast warmer weather soon saying, Tell the farmers to take a chance on it.
The appeal of seven former Godman Shoe Co workers convicted on assault charges moves to the state supreme court. Prosecutor Arlo Chatfield said the case would be heard early in the term. The men were convicted for stoning a Godman truck injuring Geo Hensel, now in Cherryton Hospital Logan.
Arfie C Atha 47 of Logan died at 310 N Mulberry St after ill health since January. He had a Baltimore lung operation in June and was cared for by Doctors Bloodgood Cohen and Cole. Survived by wife Mable Phillips and mother Mrs Mary Atha Barnett. Funeral arrangements pending with Woodard Funeral Service.
Elyria reporters say Rudolph Kopecka age 23 and Thomas Semtana age 25 face trial for bombing a Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co power line. Both men denied involvement as the defense rested after testimony this day.
The State Board of Cosmetology announces examination dates for beauty parlor operators. Tests will be Oct 1 at the Neil House ballroom in Columbus, Oct 8 at the Gibson hotel Della Robia room in Cincinnati, Oct 14 at the Hotel Hollenden ballroom in Cleveland, Oct 22 at the Hotel Secor ballroom in Toledo, and Oct 28 at the Mayflower Hotel ballroom in Akron. Applications must be filed by Sept 21.
Governor Davey told Hardin county Democrats that a general house cleaning may be needed at Ohio State University. He had suggested the legislature investigate the school amid criticism of administration after his vetoed $1,266,500 reduction in the institution's biennial appropriations.
Virgil Powell of Miami was held on a murder charge after Coroner R. E. Cook quoted Powell admitting the fatal stabbing of James Saunders, 24, in a drunken brawl in Hamilton Ohio.

Federal relief for transient care ends November 1 in Ohio. After September 20 no new transients will be admitted for relief. Existing cases will be moved to Works Progress Administration projects or returned to their settlements. Non residents will be enrolled in CCC camps as centers close in October. Eleven transient camps statewide will shut down.

Lorenz J. Bechstein age 56 was stabbed three times and thrown from the second floor of his Sandusky home following a political argument. He is listed in critical condition as police hold a suspect.

Justice of the Peace Robert W. Fall ruled it unnecessary to collect sales tax on merchandise sold on excursion boats while at sea. Charles Stenson was found innocent of violating the sales tax law at his confectionery stand aboard the steamer Erie Isle.
Mr and Mrs John Walker of Mansfield were severely injured when a Cincinnati and Lake Erie freight car struck their automobile near Lafayette Wednesday night. They were taken to a Columbus hospital for treatment.

An Ohio National Guard representative surveyed Defiance Pressed Steel Co. as about 400 workers in Defiance went on strike seeking a 40 hour week and a 10 percent raise. The plant had been operating with a 48 hour week while mayor Joe C. Krutsch pursued a settlement.
Charles Schaffner, 70, told Sheriff Miller that two men posing as eye specialists cheated him out of 75 dollars after collecting part of a 675 dollar fee for a promised eye growth removal on his wife. They fled with partial payment.
The Madison County grand jury returned 20 indictments including seven secret ones. It inspected the county jail and told the commissioners that paint and plumbing repairs are needed.
Mrs Nellie M Hess filed for divorce on grounds of inhuman treatment after a year earlier incident in Rising Sun Indiana when she was pinned to a bridge railing by an automobile driven by her husband Raymond Hess. The impact forced the couple through the railing. she later required amputation of one leg and spent months in a Cincinnati hospital. Hess is serving a 10 year Indiana prison term for the attack.

Charles R. MacBeth aged 27 died after a fall over a banister at a rooming house. He arrived about two months ago from Rhinebeck New York, son of E A MacBeth president of Rhinebeck Water Works. Burial planned in Lima Ohio.
John Lorentz of Tiffin township died after choking on a piece of apple on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the township, with authorities beginning investigations into the accident.
Ohio faces halted pension payments as the state control board refused an emergency $350 000 appropriation. About 22 600 pensioners await August checks, with September payments at risk without new revenue. Portage county Coroner J R Turner ruled the shooting of 34 year old Robert C Enger of Akron at the Elks club in Kent justifiable homicide. Patrolman F R Grubb said Enger fired first striking his belt buckle before Grubb opened fire. Cleveland relatives said they would pursue a full investigation.
