Two auto accidents occurred in Hocking County over the weekend injuring two Gibisonville area youths. The sheriff's department investigated. no fatalities reported in Athens and Lancaster posts.
Marian McKnight of South Carolina won the Miss America crown in Atlantic City after a week of pageant events. The 19 year old 5 foot 5 inch winner earned a $50 000 jackpot including a $5 000 scholarship and appearance fees. She plans to return to Coker College to finish business administration with two years remaining.
The Carborundum Co. office began operating this morning at the new plant after a Saturday move from temporary Main St. quarters. The temporary office opened Aug. 1 in the former Grooms drug store space to interview applicants and handle plant opening duties. Machinery is being tested at the new facility, which is expected to start operations soon.
The Hocking County grand jury convened in Prosecutor Fred Murray's office to hear at least 19 cases including four second degree manslaughter indictments tied to fatal auto crashes in the past six months. Lloyd Hedges Sr. faces second degree manslaughter for the March 11 pedestrian death of James C. Stump on Rt. 180.

Weekend readings in Hocking County dipped near freezing with a low of 40 degrees. A sunny spell brought noon temperatures to 74, beating yesterday’s high of 71. Forecasters expect possible showers tonight and cooler weather Tuesday.
The forecast calls for temperatures 2 to 5 degrees below normal with a high near 76 to 80 and a low around 55 to 57. Expect small day to day changes and overall precipitation under one quarter inch from scattered showers today tonight and Tuesday then again late Wednesday or Thursday. James Reedy 65, former Logan restaurant owner and longtime Hocking County dog warden, died of a heart attack near Laurelville at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. He suffered a prior heart attack Jan. 13 but seemed to recover. He collapsed while with Elmer Disbennett Clifford Strous and Millard Black at the Disbennett farm. He operated Logan restaurants 19 years and became dog warden in 1953. Survived by wife Virgin a brother John Reedy and two sisters Emma Mast and Lydia Walt. Funeral Wednesday 2 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today.

Deaths of Mrs. Dorothea Hansley and Mrs. Freda Stimson occurred within a day of each other in Hocking County. Hansley 56 of Rockbridge Rt. 1 died after surgery and Stimson 58 of Lake Logan Rd died after a seven year illness. Survived by multiple siblings and children. funerals set at Trinity Lutheran and Heinlein Funeral Home with interment in Fairview Cemetery.
An 18-year-old Cincinnati man, Ralph L. McElwain Jr., confessed to following a Logan girl and two other women, using a knife threat, after an off duty officer nabbed him. He was released into parental custody as authorities consider psychiatric treatment and possible action with city solicitor Richard Gerken.
