Frank Graham donated 25 watermelons for children at the Kiwanis playground. Ed Staff notes 4,600 grade cards arrived at the County Superintendent’s office for end of six week progress reporting to parents.
The Logan Public Library has set up a table of World War I books and materials on the Versailles treaty for patrons calling in the last days. The display showcases period coverage and related works as a ready reference.
Joe Dyarman of Scenic Inn near Logan grows a dahlia ten feet tall. The Miss I. V. Warren variety is full of blooms and buds under his care for Mr. and Mrs. Dan Goss.
Joe Blosser of Greendale spied a copperhead over 3 feet long near the barn doorway while milking. He acted quickly. the snake and the milking stool were damaged, the former beyond repair.
The Ohio Fox Hunters Association will hold its annual meeting and field trials in Logan from October 29 to November 4. Charred bodies of six Navy fliers were removed from the wreckage of a twin motor patrol bomber after it crashed in flames last night at Chollas Heights. The aircraft struck the long range radio station antenna wires, starting the fire.
Cleveland report states that a court action tests the right of the State Pardons and Parole Commission to hold closed hearings in a parole sale racket inquiry. George Kerr, former common pleas judge, plans contempt proceedings after refusing to testify further as the commission's special counsel accuses Kerr of avoiding testimony. Kerr calls the hearings Bolshevik or Hitlerized, while he defies a Monday summons. He had testified before commission vice chairman Emmett Sivertt, who leads the probe.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed a limited national emergency to protect U.S. neutrality and strengthen defense without entering a wartime footing. Four executive orders would permit restrained military increases, use federal funds to help Americans home from war zones, bolster federal investigators, and address gaps in armed forces while avoiding full peace-time mobilization.

French forces push onto German soil in a western action aimed at drawing German troops away from Poland. Berlin and Warsaw reports differ on eastern gains and Polish defenses along the Vistula and near Warsaw. The Big Vistula line remains contested as Germany rushes reinforcements to the Siegfried line.
Dr. H. M. Boocks announced a vaccination drive for all Logan un immunized school children in the last week of September. Educational films on tuberculosis will be shown at East West and Central grade schools with PTA cooperation. dates to be announced. The city board endorsed the county city dog quarantine in effect through October 1.
