Pleas for world peace and unity among American labor unions frame today as nation weighs Labor Day speeches. Gov. Alf M. Landon warns division harms organized labor and urges timely, united action to influence living standards amid wartime tensions. He cites wartime trends risking a world catastrophe.
City schools expect 1,500 pupils to return this afternoon to begin classes. Text books for this year are being furnished by the schools and will be distributed in classrooms. In rural districts about half of them furnish all texts while the rest provide part. All districts must supply texts to all pupils by 1937.
At the annual Wes oto ante ae conference Rev. L. W. Tuttle of Lancaster was assigned to the Logan Charge of the United Brethren church. Also noted were Rev. and Mrs. John A. Toy and Mrs. W. H. Long of Logan, Rev. M. B. Holcomb of Gore and Rev. A. P. Cohagen of Union Furnace.
At All American airport in Miami Florida two people died when a rented plane carrying Sam Cooper of New Smyrna and Mrs. Mary Brubaker of Miami crashed during a pleasure flight. Cooper was the pilot.
Funeral services for Francis Sheline age 68 were conducted at Gore Church at 2 PM yesterday. He died Friday morning at Athens Hospital. Burial followed at the Gore site by the Leonard Funeral Service.
Washington September 8 AP reports the office of education began a campaign to protect the nation's 13 million pet dogs from reckless motorists.
Harry J. Stevenson was named president of the McKinley Republican Club of Logan Friday night succeeding Mayor Kenneth R. Fitzgerald. Officers elected included Jas L. Martin and Della Hansel as vice presidents Mark Ricketts secretary Mrs Frank Harden assistant secretary Harley Meyer treasurer and James Larimer trustee.
The Royal Court in The Hague announced that Princess Juliana of the Netherlands will marry Bernard Zu Lippe-Biesterfeld, a German nobleman described as educated, athletic, and devoted to sports. The engagement follows a romance sparked during the winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and renewed in Switzerland with Queen Wilhelmina. No wedding date was given.
Natco Plant No. 1 Shop at Haydenville resumed operations this morning after a shutdown of nearly six weeks. Early indicators point to a promising winter outlook for production and work at the plant.

Herman Merritt, an enrollee at Camp Hocking CCC station near Conkle's Hollow, pleaded guilty Saturday to driving while intoxicated and stealing a government truck. He wrecked a camp truck while driving away intoxicated, was fined $100 and costs, and his driving rights were suspended. He was held on the truck theft charge under $800 bond awaiting grand jury action.
Two intruders invaded the Columbus dwelling of Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Gleich forcing Mrs. Gleich to unlock a upstairs safe. They stole $50, menaced her with pistols and a razor, bound and gagged her, then fled. She was found bound in the basement about four hours later.

Accidents during Labor Day week end caused at least 304 deaths nationwide with 257 on highways. The survey notes new travel records as holiday crowds used transportation systems heavily. Peter Kerknak a 51 year old laborer shot at a police cruiser near his wife’s home and hit Officer John in the hand before fatally shooting himself after threatening to kill his estranged wife. The incident followed a disturbance at Mrs Kerknak's residence.
A Missouri Peanuts Shine Special derailment occurred 11 miles south of Little Rock when a stalled automobile caused a crash. A man described as a transient was found dead, his body crushed between two cars, according to officials.
