Francis A. Nixon born near Mt. Pleasant on the Hocking Vinton line died after a two week struggle with illness at 77. He lived long enough to see son Richard nominated for a second term as vice president. He left Ohio for work as a streetcar conductor in Columbus and later ran a store and filling station in Whittier California. His family was at his side including his wife Hannah Nixon and sons Edward and Donald. Dr. I N Kraushaar cited pulmonary congestion as the immediate cause. He had been ill since a stomach ulcer hemorrhaged in July and deteriorated after an abdominal artery rupture on Aug. 22. He described as a tough member of a tough generation.

Logan Pottery Truck Crash Near Lancaster
A Logan Pottery Co. truck loaded with merchandise crashed 5.8 miles west of Lancaster on Rt. 22 at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday. Driver Jank E. Watters reported headlight failure, the vehicle veered right, hit a guard rail, toppled down a steep embankment and rolled over. The entire pottery load was ruined. the truck sustained extensive damage and Watters escaped injury.
