American and British Allied forces press toward strategic Rhine valley and Holland as fronts shift. Reports claim American units may have crossed into Germany near Aachen and Perl, while British columns reach Breda and push toward Rotterdam. Allied offensives threaten Siegfried Line with large German pockets and prisoner captures reported.
Brussels radio denied a report of German capitulation broadcast by an unidentified foreign station. London listening stations reported no such broadcast and Brussels noted Germany had not capitulated. The Brussels transmitter had only recently been liberated from German control. Federal Communications Commission monitors said they had not heard the claim.
French troops advancing from the south along the Saone Valley have reached the outskirts of Macon, a wine center 68 road miles north of Lyon, as pursuit of German forces continues. Allied HQ reports 2,400 prisoners taken in Villefranche boosting total to over 65,000 since Mediterranean landings. American units move through Montrevel and Saint Bonnet De Bruyers lies west of Macon.
Superintendent George Carr announced total Logan enrollment Tuesday at 1 223, down by one from last year. East Building 190 Central 183 West 171 Junior High 826 Senior High 353.
Allied reports place Canadian troops of the Eighth Army within six miles of Rimini after a three day two prong drive toward the Po valley highway. They repelled a violent Nazi counterattack to retake Misano, leaving several armored cars and tanks on the battlefield as British warships bombarded coastal defenses with 800 shells.
Washington announces a guinea pig auction of surplus Defense Plant Corporation property to be held in Ashland Ohio on September 8. The sale tests moving used tools equipment and supplies to farmers and others outside normal channels.
Soviet and Romanian forces pushed along the eastern watershed of the Hungarian plains as Red Army units in Poland drove a armored thrust deep into the Warsaw East Prussia defense belt. Soviet gains were reported in Transylvania and southwest of Lomza near East Prussia’s border as German radio claimed crossing the Narew River in a broader push toward East Prussia.
Front dispatches report Russian and Romanian divisions in coordinated attack against German and Hungarian forces. They advance toward the Mures River valley with Sibiu and Brasov key rail centers in sight, signaling a potential shift toward the Battle of Hungary as Yugoslav partisans close the gap. Romanian peasants aid scouts on mountain trails.
London reports a fresh German attack ending a four day lull. Robots caused casualties and damage across London and southern England as dawn broke. A brief official bulletin confirmed the strikes and ongoing retaliation.
Lawrence C. Minor, 65, longtime Procter & Gamble sales executive and Cincinnati native, was found dead in his hotel apartment today. He had been with the firm for 26 years.
Joseph Albanese, 47, of Youngstown, was nearly instantaneously killed when his car struck the bridge abutment near the business district late Sunday night.
Fatalities during the Labor Day weekend rose to 245 nationwide, with a Press survey showing more than half from traffic accidents. Ohio's wool production totaled 14,157,000 pounds, down 12 percent from 1943, according to the State Department of Rural Economics. The report issued in Columbus notes the decline reflects wartime shifts and drought impacts on shearing output and market demand.

Akron Ohio, Sept 5. Alexander Parsons aged 50 died yesterday from burns suffered in a gasoline explosion. The incident occurred in Akron and was reported by AP. Parsons is survived by family and was employed locally.
Tremors lasting about one minute were felt at 12 42 A M Eastern War Time Tuesday across northern Ohio including Cleveland Akron Canton Toledo Zanesville and Dayton. No damage was reported though seismologist Rev Joseph S Joliat S J of John Carroll University described the movement. Continued on page two.

Sgt. Robert C. Allen of Chillicothe and Jackson Ohio runs a mobile motion picture theater for the 14th Corps Service Command in the Southwest Pacific. He brings current releases to remote locations, next to a letter from home, and keeps fighting men entertained.
The American flag flew over 18 Pennsylvania soft coal mines as government seizure expands. President Roosevelt ordered eight more pits seized, adding to ten already under control. Most are strike-bound, with aims to preserve operating units amid widespread stoppages.
Allied forces pummeled Japan from the Bonin and Volcano islands to the Celebes and Philippines in a five day sweep. Carrier and naval strikes within 650 miles of Japan, land based Liberators, and various raids left 30 ships and 107 planes wrecked, with heavy losses reported for the Japanese.
H. H. Doe Daugherty president of the Ohio Legislative Pendents Association and statehouse reporter for the Associated Press was hospitalized after a stabbing at Cross Hospital. Police are investigating the assault and condition is listed as serious.
