The Associated Press reports that during the extended Labor Day weekend traffic fatalities reached 666, the highest for the holiday. The toll surpassed 518 for a nonholiday weekend and exceeded wartime Vietnam combat deaths for the period.
Allan Delong Kuhn aged 19 of Logan died at Lakeland General Hospital from injuries in a motorcycle accident near Dade City Florida. He was a 1967 Logan High School graduate and formerly worked at the Logan Goodyear plant. He is survived by his parents two brothers and two sisters. Arrangements by Leonard Funeral Home are incomplete.
Pauline Judy Scholl 78 of Logan died at 9 p.m. Monday at Kimes Convalescent Center Athens born March 30 1890 Pt Pleasant W Va daughter of Frank Judy Sr and Sophia Judy widow of O Cletus Scholl died Aug 14 1967 survived by two brothers Frank Judy Jr and Joseph Judy two sisters Kathryn Flanagan and Josephine Adcock funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday St Johns Catholic Church interment Oak Grove Cemetery.
About 500 travelers stopped Monday at Logan Jaycee coffee and doughnut stands near Scenic Lanes at the Rt 33 664 junction. A wrecked beer-bottled car was on display as signs directed motorists to the parking area. Attendance at the city pool waned, closing early due to light crowds.
Howard Blum head of Hocking County commissioners broke his foot during a volleyball game at a Florida Bible retreat camp on Sunday. He and wife plan to fly home Wednesday from Boca Raton where they stayed two weeks with their daughter and son in law William Blosser family.
Damascus reports two Syrian soldiers killed Monday night in a 20 minute clash across the cease fire line. A military communique says Israeli forces in armored cars started the gun battle with unknown Israeli casualties.

In Turkey, an earthquake along the Black Sea coast of the northwest leaves at least 10 dead and 200 injured.

The F. H. Brewer Co. of Lancaster was the sole bidder for curb replacement on Front and Market Streets. The firm bid 4080 dollars, slightly above the service director's 4000 dollar estimate, with award to be made promptly to finish before blacktopping begins. Brewer already holds the blacktopping contract.
City Manager William C Hanley declared a state of civil disaster in Berkeley after two violent nights on Telegraph Avenue. He banned loitering and assemblies from 8 p m to 6 a m and restricted amplifiers as law enforcement cleared streets. Thirty people were arrested amid a bombing, a water main break, and a police shooting tied to a Chicago protest rally. Leaders of activist groups could not be reached for comment. The Friday rally that preceded the disturbance was sponsored by the Black Panthers Students for a Democratic Society the International Socialist Association the Young Socialist Alliance and the Peace and Freedom Party.
New York traders show restrained optimism as the stock market advances during the post Labor Day session. Activity is moderate in the early afternoon with cautious sentiment guiding prices.
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey urged a nationwide, nonofficial committee to examine the Chicago violence testing roles of demonstrators police and the media after marching in New York. He suggested the Ford Foundation lead the effort.

About 300 state judges will meet in Columbus for the first annual Ohio Judicial Conference to craft uniform rules for all Ohio courts. A rule advisory committee of 25 judges and 10 attorneys was named as the session follows voter approval of a modern courts amendment transferring administration of state courts to the Ohio Supreme Court.
