Louise Moore gave birth to a son named Donald Patrick Moore 36 hours after her airman husband J Paul Moore died in a Virginia transport plane crash. The seven pound baby and mother were reported doing fine. Moore, co pilot of the Pennsylvania Central Airliner, is to be buried in Salem, Ohio, his hometown.

Labor Day Toll Hits 514 Deaths Nationwide
The Associated Press reports 514 violent deaths during the three day Labor Day holiday, up 147 from last year. Auto fatalities totaled 325, up 97. other causes 189, including 25 lives lost in a Virginia aircraft crash. Last of Lima Fugitives Captured in Detroit
Marion B. Pierce, 43, the final escapee from Lima Ohio hospital for the criminal insane, was arrested in a downtown Detroit alley where he worked as a pinboy after a tip from a man who saw his photo in a detective story magazine. Pierce admitted he was part of the five who escaped on New Year’s Day 1939. The others were captured in Chicago Cleveland Omaha and were involved in shootings robberies or suicides. Pierce had previously been sentenced in 1923 to 10 to 20 years for shooting a Cleveland officer.
