Nearly 530 costumed participants marched along Main Street with the Logan High School band providing music. City officials credited Kiwanis for keeping kids on the route and reducing mischief as winners of costume and bicycle contests were announced and a square dance followed.
In the warmest Halloween on record, Hocking County recorded 85 degrees at 2 30 PM with a rising afternoon trend to 79 by 12 45 PM the next day. Crowds lingered at the courthouse watching a street dance as about 50 danced and 200 storefront windows were painted.
North American Aviation Inc. announces it will assume control of the Curtiss-Wright airplane plant in Columbus on November 25. The 1,800 workers will close for a week and reopen on December 4 under the new management and operational plan.

Drenched and flood damaged western Oregon braces for another Pacific storm moving toward the coast. Forecasters doubt it will match the weekend downpour that caused flash floods, five deaths, and millions in damage across northern California and western Oregon. Roads and bridges are damaged while utilities begin repairs and hundreds of homes need silt and water fixes.
Two Canton men among early violators of Ohio strip mining law receive $100 fines each, suspended by Common Pleas Judge U S McGonagle. Wilbur Deckerd and William Marsh were sanctioned for lacking proper licenses and failing to post bonds for land restoration in Perry County.

The United Nations budget committee gave unanimous approval to Secretary General Trygve Lie to establish a postal administration and issue a special UN postage stamp at the permanent UN headquarters in Lake Success. The move signals the body may soon sell stamps.

Rep. W Kingsland Macy files a $250000 libel suit against the World Telegram and Sun claiming an Oct 18 story defamed him by alleging he sought the U S Senate nomination using the Hanley letter. Macy’s attorney calls the report malicious. Hanley’s letter linked debts and political favors. Dewey and Macy clashed politically.
