WPA engineer J. R. Hickey announced that 500 more men will be placed on Hocking county projects by Monday, boosting total WPA employment to over 1,000. New and present projects will use two shifts 7 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 5:30, with transfers closer to home for distant workers.
Washington reports the federal government has levied a 15 percent excise tax on bituminous coal production to fund industry regulation. In Cleveland the milk dispute eased as distributors boosted producer rates and announced a temporary retail rise of one cent per quart for November. The new schedule pays Class 1 milk at $2 per hundredweight, Class 2 at $1.30, and butter at 3.5 times the Chicago board and 15 cents for Class 3.
An assassin wounded Premier Wang Ching-Wei and three other Nationalist officials during a meeting in Nanking. The attacker, Sun Mingh-Sun, was killed as bodyguards returned fire. Wang, 50, was in critical condition. aides and officials were also injured.

A workman in Cleveland found three people dead from poison gas inside a running car. Police suspect a suicide pact. identity card lists T. E. Davis of Phoenix, Arizona. The victims include a man about 42, a woman about 38, and a 15 year old boy. The gas entered through a floor hole connected to the exhaust.
Pearl Jaques, 23, reported missing from Bergholz, Ohio, says her estranged husband confined her in a Cleveland apartment. She escaped late last night and showed police bruises and a black eye. He allegedly abducted her after visiting her parents.

Ethel B. Lamphier 45 faces execution in the electric chair at the Ohio Penitentiary tonight for the June 25 killing of Norwalk widow Mrs Katherine E Lamphier. Governor Davey refused a commute this week. Coroner J D Bradish and Norwalk police tied Lamphier to the crime.
