City Council discussed an emergency bill to end the Old Smoky dump and start city garbage collection. The measure would close the city dump July 1 and set monthly rates by family size with industrial rates negotiated with a contractor.
Federal agents and Lawrence County deputies arrested George Edward Wells, 53, in a South Point motel. Wells was wanted for flight to avoid prosecution in two Ohio robberies and an assault. The capture ends a nationwide manhunt.
Joseph Naples a Youngstown racketeer 35 was ordered returned to Ohio Penitentiary by U S District Judge Joseph P Kinneary acting on a U S Court of Appeals order. He began his fight for freedom after arrest in July 1962 and was convicted in 1964 of possessing and concealing stolen materials and promoting a game of chance.
Paul J. Cruise 70 of 134 N Spring St died at 6 35 am today at Hocking Valley Community Hospital He was born November 18 1898 in Jackson Ohio a brakeman for the C O Railway and the B and O Railroad at Newark for 17 years retired three years ago and moved back to Logan He was World War I veteran a member of the Newark Eagles Lodge and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Surviving are his wife Ferne Shaw Cruise two daughters Mrs Jack Hileen Roberts of Logan W Va and Mrs Paul Martha Sue Finucan of Cincinnati seven grandchildren two great grandchildren and three brothers Harold Pinky Cruise and John Cruise of Logan and Dr Walter Cruise of Zanesville Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday at Roberts Funeral Home with Rev Edna Hughes officiating Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery The family will receive friends Friday 2 4 and 7 9 pm At funeral home In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Allan Haines Lockheed, 80, a founder of Lockheed Aircraft with his brother Malcolm, dies in Tucson after a long career as a pioneer in aircraft construction and aviation. The Lockheed brothers formed the company in 1913.
