Scattered thundershowers cover the eastern and southern U.S. with heavy storms from northeast Texas to the south Atlantic coast. Golfball hail hits Azle Texas and Valdosta Georgia. A motorcycle collision on Ohio 56 near Ohio 374 killed 22 year old John Edward Kritzer a Bowling Green University senior and seriously injured 23 year old Keith F. Allery of Toledo. Kritzer died at a funeral home transfer, while Allery survived in satisfactory condition after EMS transport. The report cites excessive speed and loss of control as factors and notes ongoing patrol investigation with related injuries in the county.
The House insurance committee in Columbus will study a rewritten medical malpractice bill. A state operated joint underwriting pool would guarantee protection for all doctors, with 500000 per occurrence limits and up to 1 million per policy year. arbitration and education requirements are included. The measure faces strong opposition from the Ohio Bar Association and moves toward a vote.
David J. Poling 40 of 1331 Fourth St Logan was found dead at 8 03 pm Monday at his Ohio 93N office from an apparent self inflicted gunshot. Coroner Dr Owen F Yaw ruled the death a self inflicted action. Poling died from a .22 rifle shot between the eyes and had been dead 12 to 24 hours. He leaves a son David Troy Poling and three daughters, plus his mother and five sisters. Funeral services set for 2 pm Thursday at Leonard Lyke Funeral Home with burial at Smith Chapel. Call after 2 pm Wednesday.
Evel Knievel crashed while leaping 13 London buses at Wembley and vowed never to jump again. He claimed a 140 foot flying mark though some observers doubted the distance. He suffered a crushed vertebra, a broken hand, and other injuries and was hospitalized as promoters canceled the tour.
