Boy dies after gas explosion at Murray City home

A 14 year old Murray City youth Don Koon died in Cherrington Hospital from severe burns after gasoline poured into an auto carburetor ignited. His brother William Koon escaped with minor burns as both boys helped pour the fuel yesterday afternoon.

Twins Meet After 27 Years Separated at Birth Reunion in New York

Two 27 year old twin sisters, Marjorie and Shirley, reunited in New York after growing up apart in Canada. Daughters of Toronto born Mrs. Harold Shaw who died in childbirth, they were adopted by separate families, with Marjorie in London Ontario the other in Swim family. Both became nurses and their striking resemblances prompted the meeting observed by a New York clinic supervisor.

Clash at Detroit injures 55 at American Brass plant

Detroit May 27 AP The prosecutor's office steps in to determine the cause of a battle between police and CID pickets at the American Brass Company plant. About 175 police and 600 unionists clashed after the afternoon shift left the plant. Fifty five injured including fourteen officers, five in serious condition, and Patrolman Ivan Berndt near death.

District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey says James J. Hines known as Jimmy Hines, a top Tamany Hall figure in New York City, was arrested in Philadelphia. The Davis case ties him to the multi million dollar policy racket once led by the late Dutch Schultz.

Wounded man worsens as hospital report released

Allen R. McBroom, 83, released on $1500 bond to face grand jury over alleged shooting of William Freeman. Freeman, 18, wounded Wednesday night, listed in slightly worse condition at Cherrington Hospital with a bullet lodged near the spine. McBroom, arraigned for intent to kill, claimed torment from pranksters as rocks were thrown at his home. Freeman had gone with Mary Brooks to seek a marriage license when the shooting occurred.

Engineer Dies as Train Hits Truck in Ohio Incident

In Van Wert Ohio a Pennsylvanian Railroad Liberty Limited struck a trailer truck loaded with gasoline just before midnight. Engineer Bert Young of Fort Wayne Indiana died from burns and Fireman M E Ferguson was badly seared. Drivers George Alt and Lloyd Berkey of Elkhart Indiana escaped injury.

Columbus, May 27 AP Attaches said a common pleas court hearing on Mrs. Agnes B Dickinson’s motion for an order restraining further state payments on hot mix material contracts would end today. The case centers on alleged irregularities in payments for road construction supplies.

New Traffic Code Published Today in City Notice

Fireman's Wife Slain By Negro In Chicago

Florence Johnson, 34, wife of a city fireman, was attacked and beaten to death in her south side apartment early today. A paving brick lay near the body. police later seized an 18 year old identified as Thomas Crosby, an automobile washer, with scratches on his hand and bloodstained clothes.

City halts bingo permits after June 1 in Cincinnati

City Manager C. O. Sherrill announced that after June 1 Cincinnati will stop issuing permits for bingo and any gambling games to churches and charitable groups. The rule follows state gambling law and ends prior permitting practices.

TVA Directors Propose Four Point Inquiry Program

David Lilienthal and Harcourt Morgan urged a Senate House committee to study legal actions by utilities against the TVA and its affiliates. They warned of spite lines in rural areas aimed at hindering TVA electrification and questioned citizens groups backing municipal ownership as fronts for private power. They also called out widespread false propaganda against TVA funded or inspired by utility interests.

Police Repulse 4000 Pickets After Outbreak at Akron Plant

Akron May 27 AP Police repulsed 4000 pickets and sympathizers at the Goodyear Tire plant using clubs tear gas and nauseating gas. At least 60 injured. Police chief Rae Williams sought National Guard help, but Adjutant General Emil Marx said none deployed. The battle lasted hours after midnight changing of shifts until about 100 stood blocked by police rifles.

Akron Goodyear plant clashes escalate amid CIO strike

In Akron Ohio police and National Guard units faced hundreds of workers at the Goodyear plant amid a CIO strike. Tear gas, clubs, and rifle fire produced multiple hospitalizations. Patrolman Nice was struck, Donald Dixon seriously wounded by rifle fire, and several others injured as crowds opened a police safety hall role.
