Eugene Douglas, 17, of Pawtucket Rhode Island, son of a New England Paper Tube owner, reportedly was beaten by strike-breakers hired by his father's company during a strike against the business. The incident highlights tensions at the plant as workers oppose the management.
Miss Gladys Shobe age 21 of Highland Bend Scioto County died in University Hospital from shock resulting from an auto accident Tuesday near Washington Court. Her body was taken to Sciotoville for funeral arrangements.
Washington May 27 AP Members of the House fought over earmarking relief funds for roads schools dams and other public works They planned roll calls on each diversion to expose Congressmen positions Admin leaders warned changes would wreck the relief bill Roosevelt favored directing the entire fund to work relief Coalition urged steadfast stand as House had approved allocations in a preliminary vote Officials of the Public Works Administration stayed out of the fight noting they could still grant loans and grants if allocations passed and Roosevelt would control final PWA decisions
Cincinnati May 27 AP The American Federation of Labor may oppose the administration wage and hour bill as executive council members favor collective bargaining for wages over federal minima. Debate on hours and child labor provisions is mixed with some conservative leaders opposing federal regulation. President William Green expects a council decision before the meeting ends.
The Logan Daily News offers a four day all expense trip to Washington for 28.40 with dates June 14 to June 18. The package includes rail travel on Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, hotel time in Columbus and sightseeing at Washington Arlington Cemetery and Mount Vernon.

Fifty of Logan’s most beautiful young girls compete for Miss Logan title on the Chakeres Logan Theatre stage tonight. Each contestant is sponsored by a Logan merchant and the winner enters a state contest. Second and third place will serve as Miss Logan’s maids of honor. Two full shows set for 7:30 and 9:30 PM.
COLUMBUS Ohio May 27 AP The Presbyterians high office moderator of the General Assembly appeared likely to go to Dr William Hiram Faulkes of Newark New Jersey as the 149th Assembly opened Friends of Dr Faulkes a Newark First Church pastor and missionary board member said he was nearly certain to be elected He was seen as acceptable to conservatives and liberals alike while rivals included Dr James B Kelso president of Western Theological Seminary Pittsburgh and Dr S Willis McKelvey pastor Second Church Antae Oly.
In Indianapolis on May 27 the Brady gang led by Al Brady Clarence Lee Shaffer Jr and James Dolhover evaded pursuit as federal agents joined the hunt for the $2,500 bank robbery suspects who shot two Indiana officers Tuesday State Police Captain Matt Leach said the bandits hide near Logansport where Officer Paul Minneman 33 was shot ambushed and remains in critical condition while Deputy Sheriff Elmer Craig of Cass County shows gradual improvement
Geneva May 27 AP The Spanish government calls Italy's actions the most scandalous violation of international law since World War II in a League of Nations White Book. The booklet purportedly includes a secret urgent order from the Italian war office to the general staff corps, allegedly captured from Italian troops fighting in Spain.
A rare image shows John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his sons at Tarrytown awaiting the funeral train bearing John D. Rockefeller Sr. from Ormond Beach Florida. Services were held at Pocantico Hills before burial in Lake View Cemetery Cleveland. Family members include John D Jr David Nelson Winthrop Lawrence S John D III.
John D Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil, died Sunday in Florida. His body returned to Cleveland, Ohio, for burial near his mother and wife at Lake View cemetery after a simple service. A special car carried him from Tarrytown, New York.
In Canton Ohio on May 27 AP reports a shotgun ambush left Berger Manufacturing foreman Franklin Manly wounded and Frank Kurchov, Republic Steel guard, charged with shooting intent. Police say Manly fired at him as he fled a strike mob. strikers say only three pickets chased him.
London May 27 AP British plan for an armistice in Spain was virtually abandoned today. A simple plea to both sides to humanize the war topped the non intervention committee agenda. Previously a truce to withdraw all foreign fighters in Spain had been suggested by Britain.
Plans for organizing a local country club gained momentum at a Logan meeting of sponsors last night. The enthusiastic gathering set the stage for a formal membership drive and future club activities.
Detroit May 2 AP The United Automobile Workers of America says it will prosecute those responsible for beating two union organizers and six other people at the gates of Ford Motor Company Rouge plant. In Woodard's shop meeting about 25 golf fans started a membership drive for Hocking Valley Country Club seeking 100 members at $25 each. The club will be incorporated once 100 names are secured and may purchase Wright farm for future development including a nine hole course on 75 acres praised by experts for potential growth in southeastern Ohio.
