Qantas transferred 560000 dollars to an anonymous caller claiming a barometric bomb aboard a Boeing 707 with 200 plus aboard. The flight, diverted to Sydney, landed safely as police and Navy units scoured Botany Bay and a locker at the airport.
Public hearing on moving E Front St area from M-1 to R-3 for an 86 unit three-building colonial design housing project was held. Logan Clay Products owns the site. Realty Development Co. plans two-story buildings with elderly and family tenants, private upkeep, and rents from 57 to 80 dollars monthly.

Logan City Council discussed Ohio Power Co requesting a supplement to the existing service agreement due to the sewage disposal plant expansion. A new 10 year contract may be arranged before rate increases while PUCO reviews higher electric rates. The contract also covers waterworks pumping and booster stations.
Washington AP report states the House voted 224 to 131 to approve Nixon's plan to merge the Peace Corps VISTA and other volunteer programs into a new Action Corps. Supporters pledged continued funding and tighter administration, while critics warned the merger could erode program identity and freeze Volunteers in Action to America.
In Columbus the GOP caucus split over a flat rate and graduated income taxes as Speaker Kurfess promised a budget vote within the week. Amendments included exemptions up to 3000 dollars, possible real estate tax cuts, and shifts to fund local governments via income taxes.

A group of Ohio industrialists led by Republican state leaders urged lawmakers to oppose a state income tax and back a higher sales tax instead. The push began at a Hot Springs meeting and culminated in a Columbus gathering with eight business leaders and GOP officials.
Richard Lee Brown 24 of 687 N Walnut St will be buried at Fairview Cemetery after funeral at Leonard Funeral Home, with Rev. R W Faulkner officiating. Brown died from carbon monoxide poisoning in his station wagon near Mt Tabor Chapel Church. coroner Dr Owen Yaw ruled death by his own action. Witnesses Michael Blatz and nurse Linda Workman aided attempts to save him. his car was running and doors locked. Born Feb 4 1947 in Logan, he worked at Logan Goodyear for nearly five years. survived by parents John T and Esther Sealey Brown, brother Walter of Columbus, paternal grandmother Mrs Julia Brown of Logan. brother Paul David predeceased him in 1945.
