The Foreman's Association of America ordered about 18 power plant foremen at three Ford Motor Co. sites withdrawn from work at 10 A M Tuesday as a six day strike continued. Foremen had remained on job with union permission since May 21.
A 24 year old Negro, Godwin Buddy Bush, who escaped a lynch mob after being seized from Northampton County Jail, surrendered to the FBI and was taken into state custody after hiding in pine woods for 48 hours. He faced rape charges and was brought to a Raleigh prison by Solicitor Ernest R. Tyler and two FBI agents.
The Rev. George Herd, pastor of First Methodist Church in Lancaster, was elected as the 11th clerical delegate for Ohio to the 1948 jurisdictional conference in Indianapolis.
Senator McKellar of Tennessee was reported in pretty good condition at Bethesda Naval Hospital after fainting in his office on Saturday. He arrived for evaluation and remained under care today as doctors monitor his symptoms and vital signs.
Three bus loads of East School pupils were returning from the Columbus Zoo when the bus left State Route 1558 two miles south of Baltimore and plunged into a ditch. Patrols said no serious injuries, though several children suffered cuts and bruises during the outing.
At Margate on May 26 the British Labor Party voted 2332 to 571 in favor of peacetime conscription to back foreign policy. The conference toned down criticisms of Bevin, rejected communism, and substituted motions on Greece, Turkey, Palestine, and the Truman Doctrine. Prime Minister Attlee and most cabinet members attended.
Gene Waugh 22 of Lancaster was injured Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a car driven by Guy Morrison 37 of Columbus on US Route 33 near Logan. Waugh suffered a fractured right leg and lacerations. his passenger Phyllis Griffith 22 escaped injury. Waugh was taken to Hocking Valley Hospital and later Lancaster Hospital.
The Communications Commission aims to set a date to consider new radio station applications including one from Senator Bricker of Ohio. Bricker filed under Capitol Radio Inc. in Columbus, Ohio, with another unnamed request noted.
William A. Hoyle of Sharon Pennsylvania befriended two young men claiming need and fed them. They later robbed him of a watch and seven dollars after tying him and tied him in his hotel room. A house detective nabbed the suspects as they left.
Ebbert Wagner of Route 2 was fined 100 dollars and costs with 50 dollars suspended and sentenced to 30 days in Hocking County jail after pleading guilty to driving while under the influence before Judge Harley Meyer. Driving rights were suspended for one year. The charges included DUI and failure to stop after an accident.
Senator O Mahoney says Britain is using U S loans against the United States amid a world trade dispute over wool and cotton. He supported the 3 75 billion loan a year ago and notes Parliament's move to ban private cotton imports and close the Liverpool Cotton Exchange. A government commission may buy cotton in bulk. England also controls wool dealings.
The Ohio National Guard appears set to gain all needed facilities at Ft. Hayes as the Army abandons the post. An Army spokesman in Washington called the Adjutant General Chester W. Goble’s request a mere formality.
Gen. Mark Clark returning from Europe on CBS radio charges Soviet forces kept Austria on a starvation diet by feeding communists with extra food higher wages and better rations while seizing farm products livestock and Danube facilities. He notes Western allies agreed occupying armies should not subsist on local resources.
Mayor W D Weltner fines six men after guilty pleas on varied charges. Walter Nutter Logan gets 10 dollars and costs for disturbing the peace. Clarence Cox Rockbridge and his sons John Hopkins Logan Route 1 get 10 dollars and costs each for a restaurant fight. Lester Sparks Logan is fined 10 dollars and costs for intoxication. Howard W Newland Dayton pays 10 dollars and costs for speeding on Route 33 north of Logan.
Pearl McGathey Sr., 76, died Wednesday at his Haydenville home. Funeral services were at 2 P M Sunday at New Plymouth Methodist Church with Rev. Carroll Chesser and Rev. Erma Robinson officiating. Music by Eileen Miller, Evelyn Turner, and Ermal Robinson. Pallbearers included Harry Hardesty, Sylvester Hardesty, John McGathey Jr., and Cecil Weed. Burial followed at New Plymouth Cemetery under Leonard Funeral Service.
Chicago police quoted George Rapp age 56 a Wilmette beauty shop owner admitting he beat and slashed his wife Esther 45 as she slept after a quarrel. He reportedly struck her with a hammer and slashed her throat leaving her near death from a fractured skull and severed windpipe.
Secretary of Agriculture Anderson urged a July Europe conference to tighten food management in short years. International Emergency Food Council head Fitzgerald called for immediate US aid to Europe this summer and maximum grain collection to avert violence. The report notes 550 million bushels of grain exports in the coming year, including 120 million bushels of corn.
Martha Cook 79 widow of Noah Cook died Sunday night at her home 350 North Culver Street after a long illness. Born in Enterprise she lived in Logan and Hocking County all her life. Funeral at 10 30 A M Wednesday Leonard Funeral Home with Rev C W Swengel officiating Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery Survivors include son Ray Logan brother Lucius Conrad Logan and sister Mrs Mary Daubenmire Logan.
Fire destroyed the S. A. Steele elevator on Route 35 six miles southeast of Chillicothe, consuming 6,500 bushels of grain. No injuries reported. Fire crews battled the blaze Sunday.
President Truman urged Congress to approve a broad western hemisphere military cooperation program. It calls for arming training and organizing Latin American and Canadian armed forces, standardizing arms, and transferring equipment with safeguards to avoid an arms race. He stressed limited, UN charter aligned help and warned against indiscriminate distribution.
Ohio Education Association survey finds rural elementary teachers average salary 1637 dollars with a quarter earning under 1454 dollars yearly. The statewide average for all teachers is 2181 dollars, up from 2010 in 1945-46. Walden B Bliss says levies raise pay and that the Daniels Cramer school aid bill is barely adequate.
Burglars broke into the Taylor Stone Co. office at McDermott early yesterday and obtained 500 dollars in cash and stock certificates, Sheriff Earl Brande reported in Portsmouth Ohio.
The CIO forms a committee to launch a full drive to organize telephone workers and form a new industry union. Allan S. Haywood will lead a two day conference on May 31 to set up organizational machinery. The NFTW vote seeks to bolt the federation and align with the CIO. Officials say over 100,000 workers are represented in meetings.

Three Dover High School seniors are summoned to appear before the school board on open drunkenness accusations from the annual senior picnic. The event has been canceled for the 23 year tradition, with diplomas possible at graduation or privately if apologies are offered. A citizens committee had discussed concerns of drinking by local youths, led by Salvation Army captain Andrew Miller.
