Camp Logan, one of Ohio's CCC camps slated for abandonment, will transfer 140 Negro enrollees Friday morning to Camp Dean near Ironton. Camp Hocking near Conkle's Hollow will not change. no federal decision yet on Camp Logan buildings.
State Police Captain Matt Leach warned that three fugitive Brady mobsters tied to a $2,500 bank robbery and two police wounded may outgun Dillinger’s gang. He urged small midwest towns to guard against possible future forays by Clarence Lee Shaffer Jr James Dolliver and others. An Indiana police officer remains critically injured, with another deputy sheriff in improved condition.
In Columbus Ohio the 149th general assembly will hear three cases from the Presbyterian Church US about licensing William Van Dyken for ministry amid liberal vs fundamentalist tensions. An overture from the West German Iowa Synod objects to birthday balls honoring President Roosevelt, arguing they lure youth to amusements at odds with parental and pastoral guidance.
Youngstown Ohio May 26 The Steel Workers organizing committee SWOC counted its second ballot box contract victory in a major steel election as its national leaders prepared a council of war against leading independent producers. The 2500 employees of Sharon Steel Corp voted more than two to one for John L Lewis organized bargaining.
In Race for Millions Marjorie Browning, a 21 year old Columbia student, discovers she is not the late Edward W. Browning’s daughter but the adopted child of Adele Browning. The inheritance now hinges on whether Edward Browning acknowledged her as kin, a question that will affect her share of the four to five million dollars.
Mrs. Clara Collins 78 widow of Civil War veteran Thomas Collins died at her Logan home after a stroke. Survived by two sons Fred and Ed, a daughter Mary, a brother Dick Shank, a granddaughter Ruth Collins, all of Logan, and a WPA engineer son. Funeral Friday at 2 PM at First M. E. Church. Rev. W. N. Shank officiating. Burial Oak Grove Cemetery by Woodard Funeral Service.
Washington May 26 AP House leaders urged colleagues to reverse their tentative decision to set aside one third of the 1 5 billion relief fund for roads dams and other special purposes They asked that the administration be given a free hand in disbursing the money citing Roosevelt that every dollar earmarked for other purposes means fewer jobs for persons on relief The revolt supporters showed no sign of yielding The proposed earmarks include 45 million for flood control 300 million for the Public Works Administration 150 million for highway construction and grade crossing elimination 10 million for small lakes and ponds in the Great Plains
Alumni headquarters invite nineteenth century patri archs of Ohio State University graduates prior to 1900 to a three day reunion June 12 to 14 as part of the commencement program. John F. McFadden of Steuben ville O is the guest of honor as the lone survivor of the first class graduated in 1878.
In Monts France on May 26 AP reports sixteen wedding guests for the June 3 marriage of the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Warfield. Attendees include Hugh Lloyd Thomas first secretary at the British embassy Paris Sir Walter Monckton Attorney General of Cornwall Duchy Lady Walford Selby and Major E B Metcalfe equerry and best man.
In Pocantico Hills estate John D. Rockefeller Sr. received final tribute as world markets paused for five minutes. Services by Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick included prayers and hymns. The funeral procession planned a burial in Lake View Cemetery Cleveland beside his wife and mother.
Boston May 26 AP Despite a sweeping denial by Thomas E Elder former dean of the Mount Hermon School for Boys Captain John F Stokes chief of Massachusetts detectives said he had issued a warrant charging Elder with assault with intent to murder while armed with dangerous weapons F Allan Norton former cashier at the Mount Hermon school quoted by Stokes as saying a man he identified as Elder accosted him last night at Greenfield Mass pulling a shotgun from under his coat Elder promptly told news papermen by telephone that he had not even been in Greenfield last night Dr Elliot Speer headmaster at Mount Hermon was slain in 1934 by a shotgun blast through his library window The slayer escaped and the weapon never was found An inquest was held and 63 witnesses paraded before Judge Timothy H Hayes The court found Dr Speer had been slain by a person or persons unknown.
An insurgent communiqué from Salamanca headquarters says Gen. Emilio Mola’s front lines are eight miles from Bilbao. The advance places Lemona eight miles southeast of the besieged city, midway between Amorebieta and Galdacano as the next objective.
In Jersey City on May 26 the defense in the Donald Wightman and Gladys MacKnight murder trial rested after cross-examination. Each teen accused the other of delivering fatal hatchet blows to Helen MacKnight who was killed as the couple allegedly argued with her in the kitchen during a disputed confrontation. Donald claimed he held the woman while Gladys killed her. Gladys claimed Donald struck the blows as they fought over a kitchen knife during the confrontation.
Logan business and professional men join service clubs in backing a Logan Country Club. A meeting at Woodard's shoe shop tonight will discuss forming a non profit group to buy the 75 acre Hocking Valley Golf Course from S. W. Wright, opening club membership to golfers and interested residents alike.
Canton Ohio May 26 AP The first SWOC strike against Republic Steel Corp idled nearly 10 000 workers at seven Canton and Massillon plants. SWOC leaders met in Youngstown 50 miles away for a council of war as both Republic and Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co refused to sign contracts.
Memorial Day in Indianapolis sees more than twenty top speed merchants preparing for the 500 mile race May 31. Drivers face a pessimistic weather forecast with possible thundershowers as qualification hours dwindle to nine, six today and three Saturday. Contenders listed include Jimmy Snyder Harry MacQuinn Kelly Petillo Babe Stapp Rex Mays and Shorty Cantlon.
Ohio State University rural economist Floyd DeLashmutt said in Columbus on May 26 that prospects are somewhat more encouraging than earlier, with farmers overcoming delays from heavy rains and cold weather. He forecast a near record winter wheat harvest if favorable conditions persist and noted rye, oats, and barley in good condition though late planted oats may suffer from a hot period.
Two of three transport planes reached the Arctic area near the North Pole delivering eight tons of food and equipment to sustain and assist four air trail explorers. One plane located the Soviet polar outpost, while another landed about twelve and a half miles from the camp on the ice field.
President Roosevelt remains determined to push his Judiciary reorganization bill as labor, power and other administration programs face court challenges. He noted some allies urge withdrawing the bill, while stressing court rulings on social security and labor standards will shape wage and hour laws and national planning proposals.

The eight inter American agreements stem from the Buenos Aires conference, which the United States initiated and attended, signaling urgent cooperation and the good neighbor policy.
An odd accident damaged Bernard Geiger’s Elm Street house when a parked car owned by Ralph Mundy rolled in reverse across a vacant lot and into the building. David Roberts, son of Mr and Mrs Dan Roberts, remained at the wheel, unaware how to stop the vehicle. The car sustained minor damage while the house suffered a large hole in the side.
Buffalo May 26. Irked by eight late arrivals at the city meeting Councilman George Ad. Young proposed a resolution requiring tardy councilmen to stay after the meeting and write I will not be tardy 500 times.
