A two-day pre-assembly evangelism conference opened as 900 delegates begin assembly enrollment.
Washington May 25 Chairman Connery of the Labor Committee urged fast consideration of the administration wage and hour bill. He favors a 30 hour week and at least a $16 weekly minimum for interstate workers. Senate hearings may start this week with a report in about three weeks as Black signals possible changes.

Jersey City May 25 AP Gladys MacKnight 17 testifies under cross examination that her statement accusing Donald Wightman 19 of hatchet slaying her mother remains largely true. She alleges Donald did it while prosecutors press to overturn earlier police narrative.
William E Heft aged 63 died at 192 Elm Street at 11 AM from complications after a 38 year career with Hocking Valley and C and O railroads. Heft was a freight clerk at Logan depot. Survived by widow Margaret two sons Ralph and Dallas a dozen grandchildren and many siblings. Funeral Thursday at 2 PM at First United Brethren Church with Rev John A Toy officiating. Burial Oak Grove Cemetery by Heinlein Bros.
Cincinnati on May 25 reports the American Federation of Labor voted to raise a war chest to oppose John L. Lewis' Committee for Industrial Organization. In Pittsburgh Jones and Laughlin Steel Co. chairman H. E. Lewis signed a contract recognizing the Steel Workers Organizing Committee as exclusive bargaining agent for 27,000 workers.
On the Franco Spanish frontier Gen Emilio Mola’s insurgents reported to have captured Yarre, opening a path for a double thrust toward Galdacano and the strategic highway junction southeast of Bilbao, central to the iron ring defenses of the Basque capital.

Loganport Indiana May 25 AP A state policeman Paul V Minnehan was shot in the abdomen and deputy sheriff Elmer Craig wounded in the foot during a gun battle with four men fleeing with about 2500 dollars stolen from Goodland state bank The suspects fled after opening fire on patrols along U S Highway 24 about five miles west of Loganport In hospital authorities say Minnehan’s condition is serious though stable
