Mark Wylie Named Cage Baseball Coach At Gallipolis
Mark Wylie former Gibisonville High School and Ohio University star athlete was named head basketball and baseball coach at Gallipolis Academy by the Gallipolis city school board last night. He replaces Bill Carruthers who resigned last month after a two year tenure. Wylie led Union Furnace to Hocking County League and county tourney titles in both years with 15 5 and 15 6 records. The 33 year old native organized baseball as a spring sport at Union Furnace this year and his club won four of five starts. He played at Gibisonville in basketball and baseball and starred at Ohio University after wartime service. He coached at Pickerington and worked in the Cleveland Indians system for nine years as player and manager. He will return to the Indians farm system this summer as manager of the North Platte Neb team in the Class D Nebraska State League. He has managed several other teams in Class D leagues and had a notable pitching career cut short by a shoulder injury.
